Notice anything different about this training recap? First clue is the title. Yes, I’m still running Wineglass. But I knew I’d eventually have to pick either MCM or Wineglass as my fall goal race and choosing MCM just made since due to the fact that it’s three weeks after Wineglass. So I will use Wineglass as a long run while training for Marine Corps. It just makes sense!
This past week, I travelled a bit. I was in Boulder for three days and then out of town over the weekend. So I had to switch some things up but that happens over a training cycle.
Monday: three mile progression run. Hot and humid but a strong run.
Tuesday: travel day. I did some of my PT stretches but that’s it.
Wednesday: 4 miles in Colorado altitude and a visit to the Boulder Pure Barre.
Thursday: 2 more altitude miles and a travel day.
Friday: 14 miles. I knew I’d be unable to run over the weekend so I planned to get in my long run on Friday. I didn’t get to bed Thursday until close to 1am after landing back in DC after 10pm but I still knew running Friday was my best bet. I met my buddy Jess for six miles and then did four more by myself for a total of ten. I took an afternoon Pure Barre class and then headed out for four more miles. That gave me 14 for the day.
Saturday / Sunday: rest days
The week was really solid with 23 miles and two Pure Barre classes. I’m proud that travel hasn’t derailed me.
How was your training last week?
Boulder looks really beautiful! Good luck with adjusting training for the new goal race, I bet MCM will be really fun as well. I had a friend run Wineglass in 2013 (her family lives in NY) and she really enjoyed that race too.

It just made sense to push towards the later race and use Wineglass as a training run!
So far the summer’s gone by quickly, and I can’t believe I’m seeing people starting their fall marathon training. I know it’s mid-July, but the first half of summer goes by fast.

What’s that saying – the days are long but the years are short? I definitely feel like that!
I really want to get out to Boulder/Colorado sometime soon. I only hear great things! Great week of training. I had a 15 miler this weekend and I’m still feeling wiped out. Marathon training takes it out of me!
Yes, I’m extra tired with all the training. Boulder is lovely!
Good job getting it done with a trip in there. It is hard to keep it going with travel…my problem usually isn’t the training itself but rather getting enough sleep to recover and feel rested and not get sick.

Last week definitely was a little lacking on the sleep end…
Great week of training even with traveling! My training week went well too- total of 23 miles as well and a great tempo run. I did strength training 2 days and Sunday was my rest day. I have heard such great things about Boulder and would love to visit! Have a great Monday!

That’s great – glad you had a good week!
Great job getting everything in with the travel! That’s fun that you were able to check out a Pure Barre class while you were in Boulder.

Yeah it was fun to visit a new studio!
Smart decision.
Now you’ll just have to remember not to go all out at WineGlass and remind yourself it is just a training run.

Somehow, I think I’ll be okay with that one. I haven’t ever really experienced going all out during a marathon π
I struggle on vacations, they require much planning to fit my runs in. Great job on a good week!

Haha, yeah I know. It just made sense to use Wineglass as a long run. Boulder is lovely!
You know you’re Pure Barre obsessed when….lol! So cool you were able to take a class somewhere new! Great job getting your runs done and yay MCM! π

I know, right? I’m actually hoping to visit two more studios out of state while traveling this month!
Nice work! I always enjoy following your marathon training! It must be tough balancing traveling and long runs…but you took care of those 14 miles!

It requires a bit of planning to pull off π
How fun that you decided to add MCM to your race schedule. I use to keep adding races to my calendar with the though of “I’m training anyway, so why not”. But of course now with my injury I’m definitely slowing down on the race calendar! Looks like you have lots of fun races coming up!
Well I was already running MCM but hadn’t decided which was going to be my goal race!
Great job on keeping up the workouts while travelling! Are you planning to do the full marathon at Wineglass in the training for MCM, or just do part of it?

No I’m running the full at Wineglass!
Great job getting your long run in, even with a busy weekend! I’ll probably be moving a long run or two in the next two months given how much we’ll be out of town, especially in August.

Yeah it’s sometimes a necessity but planning ahead makes it doable!
Great job getting all those mikes in on Friday, especially after that late night. Traveling can derail me too, but you were really smart with planning it out & making sure you got it done.

Planning ahead is so key!!
Traveling always seems to derail me but that’s because I’m traveling with my mini-me’s and no help!! Great work! How was Boulder? I definitely miss CO!
Boulder was delightful. I love going there for work!
Good for you! Did running in Boulder inspire you? I hear that is the most fit town in the US!

Haha, it was certainly gorgeous!
It does make sense to pick this as our goal race and use Wineglass as training. Great training week even with the travel. Love the shoes too!
Training last week went good. Though after my long run on Saturday I was really tired and more sore than I thought I would be.
I was supposed to go out on a run this morning, but ended up getting back into bed (bad decision cause I’m even more tired now). I will most likely run tomorrow morning instead.

sometimes rest is more important!
Smart idea to use Wineglass as a training run – going to be a beautiful one π Sometimes when I think I have X days until Chicago, I think Courtney has X days – 7 until WG!
