The weeks just keep flying by and the miles just keep piling on. I had another great week of training and part of that was the motivation and inspiration I felt coming from Bird Camp (Oiselle’s Team Camp) this past week. I was really pumped up even as I struggled with getting my body back on East Coast time. Here’s my rundown for this week’s training recap:
Monday: 7 mile hike/jog/walk up and down yet another mountain. This wasn’t a lazy day hike – it was legit and super beautiful. My legs were like “what is wrong with you, girl?” Plus a 2.5 mile shakeout run that evening.
Tuesday: 5 hour flight back to DC. Sad to be leaving the PNW but happy to be going home.
Wednesday: Thank goodness my group had an easy track workout lined up because I was just SO out of it due to the travel and all the running up and down mountains! We ran a .5mi warm up, 3x400s, 2x200s and a .5mi cool down and then did a 30 minute form and warmup clinic. That was really awesome and a great way to easy back into track.
Thursday: Rest day
Friday: 3 miles plus lots of work with my PT on form and such.
Saturday: 18 miles! Longest run since last fall and it was a good one. Mile 17 was my fastest mile and I felt strong throughout. I had a great crew of gals that helped to make it fun and while it was tough, it was one of my best long runs so far during this training cycle.
Sunday: Finally back to Pure Barre. After all my travel, I was really happy to be back at the barre…but ouch did it kick my butt!
A total of 33 miles and one Pure Barre class. It was a good week! I’m starting to really feel confident about my fall races and that run on Saturday really helped in that area. It helps that most of my Saturday crew will be running Marine Corps as well so it will be nice to have a bunch of friendly faces on the course.
Does your training suffer when you travel?
I was just telling someone how fast the summer has flown by. It seriously feels like just June! I’m glad training has been going well though and that you are feeling more marathon ready.

can’t believe it’s almost labor day!!
Nice job on that long run! I bet going to bird camp really helped pump you up for running!

it really did – got me into the right mindset!
Nice long run! I too had trouble getting back on east coast time after my trip to Seattle earlier this month….I also had trouble getting back to east coast humidity!

thanks – luckily the humidity was pretty low (for DC standards) on saturday!
Pure Barre is really good at kicking my butt. I know I need to get back to it more, but I’ll wait until after summer and things calm down for me. I keep thinking I need to buy one of their DVDs so I can do it at home when I can’t get to the studio.

i’ve thought about that (buying the dvd) but i just work so much harder in studio and i love seeing my pure barre ladies π
seriously, summer – wtf?! looks like a really strong week of training to me! maybe we can finally get in a SB breakfast this week? π

yes, let’s get that on the calendar! end of the week looks good π
18 miles! Woohoo!! Awesome! My training usually suffers on the day of travel, but once I’m at a new place, I love to run to explore the area.

well there was definitely no training on my flying days to and from seattle — a 5 hour flight takes up a lot of the day with airport travel and such! π
Courtney, y’all KILLED that long run on Saturday, girl! So excited for you! You’re definitely ready for some fall racing, ma’am; I can’t wait to see you burn it up out there!! Way to go, and I hope your week is off to a great start!

aw, thanks gal! it was a really good run and i’m starting to get excited for fall racing (and weather, of course!!)
Way to rock your long run!! So awesome! Love when you feel strong and like all the training is paying off. Traveling does impact my running. Like this weekend, we were away for my sister’s wedding and it was hard to keep up with my normal training for those couple days. Not feeling good didn’t help but I can relate. Have a great week!

You rocked that 18 mile! You’ve had such a good training cycle so far – watch out Race-Tober….Courtney is gonna get ya.

Great week! And good job on your 18 miler.

Nice job!! Having a strong 18 miler has to feel great and be a confidence builder! My long run hasn’t hit 18 miles yet for this cycle I’m in, but I sure hope it goes well too. Our overnight lows are still upper 80s so it’s still a battle out there.
I’m hosting a giveaway on my little blog for some custom shoe tags. You should come check it out! π

Yay for 18 miles and for feeling good too! That is great that mile 17 was your fastest mile. Those girls must be really motivating to run with! By mile 17 i’m sure i’d be feeling sluggish!
i finally got my pre long run fuel under control and that made a big difference, i think!
Looks like you had a wonderful week! I haven’t tried Barre but it’s on my bucket list. Can’t believe it’s almost time to bust out the crock pot and pumpkin things.

barre is the best! i highly recommend it π
I’m seeing so many bloggers getting ready for MCM, I’m a little jealous! Sounds like you had a great training week. I think if I ever had a long run where mile 17 of 18 was my fastest mile, I’d be so insanely excited. Normally that’s about the time where I”m thinking “I’m going to collapse!” or “I am so hungry”! π

Thank you Sue – your words mean a lot! We gotta get drinks/dinner on the calendar π
Rockstar! You are kicking butt and taking names! I am so excited for you!

Over the years I’ve gotten good at staying on track with training when I travel. It helps that I’m married to a runner so he gets it.

Doesn’t it feel great when you have a long run like that ? So happy for you ! Glad your training is going well.
