I am now just a few weeks out from my goal race for the fall, the Navy Air Force Half Marathon. Here is my training recap for week 9. Overall, this was a good week, with a lot of strong workouts.
Monday: After running the Leesburg 20k the day before, I was a bit tight, so reveled in a Pure Barre class. I visited a new Pure Barre studio and was unpleasantly surprised to learn that their AC was not working. Hot barre was NOT fun, let me tell you! Yuck. I felt like they should’ve given us a free class, especially because they didn’t tell us about the AC situation until AFTER we were in the class. Boo. Y’all know I love Pure Barre but this class was ruined by the heat. It was an excellent workout, however.
Tuesday: Track day. Julie and I ran a little ladder. 1000m, 2000m, 1000m — plus a mile warm up and cool down. I hit all my paces, which was awesome – but this was a really hard workout. I’m glad it’s over!
Wednesday: I tried out a new-to-me pilates studio for some much needed relaxation. I definitely am going to have to work more pilates into my routine. I really enjoyed this class. (I went to Fuse Pilates, in case you are local and want to try it out).
Thursday: Tempo run day. A one mile warmup, 5 tempo miles and a half mile cool down walk for a total of six miles. The goal for the tempo miles was to keep them sub-9. Here are those splits: 8:47, 8:58, 8:46, 8:34 and 9:01. I’m calling that a success — ESPECIALLY because the last tempo mile started as I was running UP Cap Hill! This was definitely one of the best tempo runs I’ve had all training season.
Saturday: Julie was / is out of town so I was on my own for the long run. Our plan called for 14 but I was tempted to go shorter since last week the plan only called for 10 and I ran 12. I decided I’d just suck it up and go ahead and run 14 anyway. I met up with the Pacers Saturday Long Run group for the company. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was starting to get sick (boo summer colds) and my legs felt tight. Splits: 9:39, 9:41, 9:49, 9:51, 9:58, 10:14, 10:27, 10:10, 10:16, 10:16, 10:35, 10:48, 10:32, 10:01. I have to stop starting my long runs too fast. I intially thought I could hold a 9:30/9:40 pace for the run, but it turned out that I just couldn’t and settled into the low 10s. It was fun to meet a new group of runners and I also ran into Jenny (from Run Jenny Run) at mile 10 and my friend Shelia at mile 12. Yay runners!
Sunday I felt absolutely awful and went to bed at 8pm. I’m trying to shake this nasty cold and am about to head out to a Pure Barre class in hopes it will help.
How was your week of training?
