Neighborhood notes…H St, NE

December 22, 2011 By: project30in2012comment

About three months ago, I moved from NW (Adams Morgan) to NE (H Street area). This was a big deal move for me for a couple of reasons. First, I was leaving my dear friend and moving to a place all by myself. I’d lived alone before, but after two years of living with my bestie (and a year also living with her boyfriend), I knew it’d take some time to adjust to living alone again. Second, I was moving to an area of town that I wasn’t nearly as familiar with. NE is not exactly walking distance from most of my friends in NW and, boy, did they give me hell about it. “You are going SO FAR AWAY!” “It’s so hard getting home from your new neighborhood!” “Boo! You suck!” Seriously, those are all things I heard when I announced my move.  In reality, even those it is a bit further than where I used to live (yes, sometimes I complain about it too), I love my new neighborhood. I love having a (tiny) yard. I love being able to step into the middle of my street and see the Capitol in the distance (about 13 blocks away). I love being able to walk to Eastern Market and being apart of my Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Most of all,  I LOVE the variety of excellent restaurants and bars that are in my immediate vicinity. There is only one thing missing…delicious pizza. If you know me at all, you know that I LOVE pizza. I could eat pizza every single day and never get sick of it. I’m not joking, and I’m not exaggerating. I love it. Sadly, there is no delicious pizza in my neighborhood. Hopefully, that will change soon. Popularise is an online platform that gives local residents the ability to have input on what is built in their neighborhood. They have bought the space at 1351 H St, NE and are currently letting residents sign up and vote for what should go there. Obviously, I’ve voted for a pizza joint. Specifically, Red Rocks Pizza. Red Rocks is delicious and was one my favorite places to eat when I lived walking distance from the Columbia Heights location. It’s seriously yummy pizza and I’d love to see it in the hood. Oh, plus they are adding morning bagels to their menu. So go vote! Please. My pizza-lovin’ self begs you 🙂
