Revolve DC: Body Ride Review

June 1, 2014 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC5 Comments

Welcome to Part II of my Mini-Series highlighting Revolve DC’s various spin classes. If you missed it, please check out Part I here (where I reviewed the Real Ride). This morning, I took a Body Ride class with Dorothy. Here’s how Revolve describes the Body Ride:

Cardio…Strength…Flexibility…Everything you need in one complete class. This all-encompassing workout allows you to maximize the time you have to work-out in one place. Start out strong. The ride is cardio-intense and gets the heart rate up and keeps it there. Stay moving while you strengthen and tone the upper body on the bike. Polish it all off with a cool down stretch both on and off the bike. You get it all. You get the complete body

Basically, it means that in addition to getting your butt kicked during the actual spinning part, you will stop spinning and use hand weights (while you are still seated on the bike) in the middle of class to tone your upper body. It is awesome and I absolutely loved it!

So where should I begin? First of all, let me just say that Dorothy is a rock star. At first when class was beginning, I wondered if I would think she was as personable as Stephanie, who taught my first class at Revolve. Spoiler alert: the answer is YES. Dorothy is SO encouraging and just made me basically kill myself in class — in the best way possible. Her timing was PERFECT, her song choices were amazing (basically lots of bass heavy rap music with a few other things mixed in — PERFECTION) and she was working so hard up there that it made me want to push myself even further. By the time we got to the weights, I was ready for a little break…except it was NOT a break. We did 6 tough minutes of upper body work. I could feel the work I put in at Pure Barre being tested. And then just when I was like “no more, please!” we were back to spinning.

We did lots of building up super steep hills, lots of sprint stretches and a lot of hard work. I would definitely say this was one of the most challenging spin classes I’ve taken, but also the most fun. If you are newer to spinning, don’t be nervous. You control everything – the speed and the intensity but you’ll want to take it up a notch in this class! It was an amazing workout. Dorothy rocks. Have I said that already? Because it’s true – take her class! You won’t be sorry. Oh! I also clipped in all by myself — clipping out is another story, hehe ๐Ÿ™‚

Up next for me at Revolve is the Barre Ride. I’m very intrigued by this and can’t wait to share my thoughts with y’all — and to give away a free class!

*I was comped the usual fee for this class but all opinions are, as always, my own.

I love it when cycling classes have an upper body component to it (I prefer the free weights over push ups) ๐Ÿ™‚ I am curious to hear about Barre Ride – I’ve never taken a class like that.
