Richmond Half Marathon Goals

November 11, 2015 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC34 Comments

This Saturday, I’ll be running my 6th half marathon. I’m so excited to head down to Richmond for the third year in a row, but my first year running the half marathon (I’ve run the full marathon in Richmond twice – here are those recaps). I actually realized that this will be my 19th race of the year. But…it’ll be my first half marathon of the year. Isn’t that funny? I have not run a half marathon since September of 2014. To provide some perspective — since I’ve run my last half marathon, I’ve run four marathons. Good grief. Anyway, I’m excited to run Richmond this weekend and thought I’d set some goals for the race.

Richmond Half Marathon Race Goals

After the truly incredible racing season I’ve had (I set personal records in the 10k, ten miler and marathon this fall), I am running Richmond for fun, not for time. However, I’m still setting some races for Saturday’s race:

A Goal: This is the perfect day. The stars have aligned and I run the race of my life. The weather is perfect, and everything is just on point. In the 2:10 range. This would not be the race of my life but I’m strictly looking to have fun on Saturday. I’ve raced an awful lot this fall and I’m trying to take it easy for the rest of the year, running wise. Besides, I’m running another half marathon next weekend…
B Goal: This is an average day. Nothing is perfect but nothing is awful. 2:15ish. This should be doable and still present enough of a challenge for the run.
C Goal: This is a bad day. Things have gone wrong and it just is not my day. Finish happy. I really don’t have strong time goals for this race – I just want to enjoy running Richmond and a fun weekend with my running friends!

Running the Richmond Half Marathon (or any of the Richmond races) this weekend? Check out my tips here! And say hi if you see me around town!

Who else is racing this weekend? Have you set race goals yet?

Good luck in Richmond! I am running the Rock and Roll Vegas half this Sunday and then Route 66 half the next Sunday. Some people think I am crazy for back to back halfs so I am glad to know someone else is running a half two weekends in row!

Courtney, you’ve been running so strong (and so many tough races – GAH!) and my only wish for you this weekend is that you have fun and enjoy every minute! Of course, after all of these marathons, 13.1 at Richmond is going to feel like a break – ha! I can’t wait to hear all about it!! Get it, girl!
