Richmond Marathon Training Recap: RACE WEEK!

November 10, 2014 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC40 Comments

Y’all. It’s here! Marathon week is here and I’m excited. I’ve had a pretty good training cycle and am excited to see what I can do. I’ll be sharing some race goals later this week, but given that I’ve been in training for what seems like forever, I am thrilled to finally see marathon week. πŸ™‚ I’ve mentioned that I’ve had a little knee pain lately and that hasn’t entirely gone away, but I’m really hopeful that it will cooperate on race day. I had four rest days this week but did two days of two-a-days so I felt like that was a good compromise. This week I’m going to run twice – both easy runs and then it’s the big show! Here’s my final Richmond Marathon Training Recap:

the road to richmond- training recap via eat pray run dc

Monday: rest day

Tuesday: barre class in the AM and hill repeats in the PM. Woo! Running up Capitol Hill 5x – a killer workout!

Wednesday: Easy 5k with Julie. We caught up and did a quick run before the rain started. A sub ten pace, but it was very conversational. Nothing like running with a friend.

Thursday: 4 AlterG miles in the AM and a cardiocore class in the PM. That class was killer and I was the only one there, so it was basically like an intense personal training session. I was literally dripping in sweat within the first five minutes. It was so insane but I loved it. I visited Jade Fitness on the Hill here in DC — I highly recommend the studio for those of you who are local!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday: rest. This IS taper time, remember?? I was also in Charlottesville over the weekend, so my workouts consisted of walking around wineries and eating delicious food. Hey, treat yoself, right? Just practicing what I preach, here guys! I had the BEST time in Charlottesville and the weekend just flew by. I have an intense couple of weeks starting with work travel early this week, lots of work to finish in the next couple weeks, the marathon and preparing for the holidays so I’m trying to get my mindset ready and actually happy that the marathon is happening in the midst of all this busyness. Running 26.2 miles will give me lots of time to think. πŸ™‚

How was your weekend??

Oh I can’t wait to cheer for you and Christine next weekend. I don’t want to comment on the current weather forecast, but have fingers and toes crossed that it stays this way. Easy weekend for me, with a fun long run of 6 miles with my girls! See you soon!

I can’t believe race week is here! My husband and I are stalking the weather forecast, but also looking up the best BBQ and booze in Richmond. Ah the perks of only running the half marathon rather than the full! Best of luck with the crazy taper swings this week and have a great weekend.
