Richmond Marathon It Is

September 25, 2014 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC48 Comments

After taking some time and thinking about what was the right decision for me, I’ve decided to run Richmond in November. I am really really excited that I’m getting to give this marathon another shot since I loved it the first time I ran it. One of my concerns was not being able to be there for K, but he assured me that we could start together and then run our own races depending on how we felt that day. I hope we’ll stay together the whole race but if either of us feels great, we each have permission to run our own race.

RICHMOND

So why did I choose Richmond? Well, there were a number of reasons. We just booked our honeymoon in December and with the holidays coming right around that same, it means that there is a lot of money being spent in our house in December. The idea of registering for another marathon and paying for a hotel, travel costs, etc. just wasn’t very appealing. We’re already headed down to Richmond and it only costs $20 for me to change my registration. It just was the more logical choice for us.

I’m really excited about heading back to Richmond and hopeful about the race. I don’t necessarily think that marathons get easier but my mindset is definitely different this time around. I feel pretty calm about the whole thing. Of course, that’s easy to say eight weeks out, right?

Have you ever run the Richmond marathon? If so, did you love it as much as I did?

All right! I’m running it too – DNS’d last year, have done the half several times. I think Amanda @MissZippy1 has run it – she said the only real hill (other than the one in the half) is the bridge on mile 16 or so where it can be windy. I believe Christine @imperfectCAK @werundisney is doing it too…

i ran it last year so i’m really familiar with the course. the last noticeable “hill” is actually at mile 19. a tiny bridge but feels bigger due to the distance. it’s a great race and yes, christine is also running!

I ran Richmond last year and while I had my worst marathon time ever – I still had a great time in that city! I ran with an injury, hoping it wouldn’t rear its angry head, and of course it did at mile 8.

My husband and I are going back this year and we’re running the half together. This will be his first half marathon and I can’t wait to run it with him. However, if my next marathon goes poorly I think it’s well within reason that I’ll bump up and run the full marathon in Richmond.

That’s great that you can switch to the full for only $20! I’m going to be there for the half that weekend. It looks like a lot of people will be doing one of the races down there that weekend.

Congrats! I bet it’s great to have made the decision, and you’re going into training with an awesome base from RLRF. Richmond’s also quite pretty (from what I know), and now you’ll just have to scope out a tasty post-marathon brunch place 🙂

OK, so I’m not surprised LOL. I ran the Richmond Half Marathon last year and it was an awesome race, even in the pouring rain. I had to think long and hard about doing it again this year, but have decided not to.

    Have a fabulous marathon!
