Today is the official start of my Shamrock marathon training. Technically, training started on Saturday. We all gathered for an info session and “fun run.” And, what’s so great is that it was actually REALLY fun! For two miles, Mar and I ran together and caught up. It was so fun chatting about blogging, our lives, etc. I loved it! Which was kinda surprising to me because I ALWAYS run with headphones. Even if I’m running with others, I’ll run with one earbud in, one out. However, we’re not allowed to use headhpones while training with PR Running (which I totally get) and I have to say, it wasn’t that bad. Mostly because of the fun conversation. At mile two Mar, headed back in and I went on to make it an even five miles. A few minutes after I said bye to Mar, I caught up with a gentleman named Michael. Michael and I turned about to be pretty evenly paced and ran the rest of the run together. Michael and I chatted about running, our backgrounds and what we did for a living. The miles literally flew by and I was so pleased that running five miles felt so FUN and easy! I think I will like chatting with others while running 🙂
The plan has me running anywhere from 4-5 days a week, including a track workout (which I won’t be able to make every week, but will strive to make a couple times a month), a long and easy run, and two other runs. It is totally doable and I’m so stinking excited about this! I’m going to try and run Tuesdays, Thursdays (possible 2 a days with an easy run AM and a track workout PM) Saturdays and maybe Mondays (depending on if I’ve run 2x on the preceding Thursday). I will share what I do here on the blog but probably won’t do a marathon training recap every week because that might get boring. But I will share the ups and the downs. Here we go, folks!
Have you ever trained with a group before? How’d it go?
I used to always have music on when I was running too. When I joined my running group last Spring I thought I would die without it. Turns out I got used to running without music and now only have it on for boring solo runs (read: Treadmill) or harder solo runs.

I also thought I’d die. I still think I’ll use music for solo runs — but I really liked my run w/out the other day!
I have trained with a group for my first 2 half marathons and my first full marathon, it was absolutely the BEST experience for me. I hope you love it and good luck!

Thanks Sara — I think it’s going to be an awesome experience!!
It was great running with you. And I didn’t die without my tunes! I’m really looking forward to this experience!

Me too, me too! Having great conversation helps w/the not dying part 🙂
I haven’t. But it is something I would like to do. I have done group runs with MRTT, and our ladies are so much fun!

Congratulations on your start and good luck with your training! We have the same Garmin. 🙂
Great start to training! I have trained with groups but not in a very long time. Loved it!

I make it to group runs here and there, and I think you’ll have a great experience marathon training with a group! I stopped running with headphones a year or two ago and also thought it would be the worst. I only wear them for treadmill runs now and find I even enjoy long runs solo without music now…never would have thought!

I haven’t run with a group before but when I head out for a run with my husband we leave to tunes at home and chat about our day/week. It’s nice to be able to have a grown up conversation without being interrupted.

I will impart my specialty here on the online journal however likely won’t do a marathon preparing recap each week on the grounds that that may get exhausting.
