Sippin + Paintin’

July 29, 2013 By: project30in201214 Comments

Recently a few girlfriends and I checked out Living Social’s Sippin & Paintin night at their 918 F Street Loft. If you’ve never been to 918 F Street, I definitely recommend checking it out. They have events there all the time and fun things like cooking classes, painting classes like the one we did and much more!

I was excited about this class because it was basically an idiot proof way to create a cool painting. Once we arrived and saw what we were supposed to paint, I was a bit disappointed. I didn’t want to paint a bird. In fact, two of my friends chose to paint something else entirely. I knew better – and knew I’d need every bit of instruction provided.

Once we got going, I started to feel a littttlle bit self conscious – I’m not particularly artistic and let’s just say that my bird was a bit of an interesting interpretation for quite awhile. I named him Seamus and even though he started off a little rough, I quickly grew attached to him.

"Seamus" looking a little dinosaur-ish...

All the while, we were chatting, drinking wine and having a great time. The class was full of mostly groups of girlfriends, with a couple of folks who were clearly on dates mixed in there. It took us about an hour and a half to complete our paintings.

I really enjoyed myself and actually was pretty proud of my final product. In the picture below you can see what Laura and Anna did. Their paintings were both pretty awesome and I really think more than a few women wanted to commission Anna to paint something for them. She’s truly found her calling! It’s also pretty funny to see just how different Wei’s painting is from mine and we were supposedly painting the same thing. Haha, I have to say that she definitely followed our model picture (and the instructor) more closely, but I love Seamus all the same.

Are you artistic? Have you ever done a Living Social event?

we’ll have to go again and all do the same painting. one of the best parts really is comparing how different everyone’s are after you’ve all been following the same instruction the whole time. glad you got to come with us this time and that you had so much fun! and created your own new friend! =) hugs to seamus.

Yes! I’d love to go back. It was such a fun night — even with the crazy drunken girls! 🙂 Seamus sends his best 🙂
