What is your favorite snack food? Without a doubt, my favorite is popcorn. I love it so much. I pretty much have to order it when I’m at the movie theater (no butter, please) and I regularly bring popcorn to work for my afternoon snack. I love Garrett’s and they are a must visit whenever I’m in Chicago but on a regular day, I also enjoy Pop Secret’s Homestyle Popcorn and could eat a bag of that every day, easy. However, in an effort to make my favorite snack healthier, I recently started popping my own popcorn at home. I don’t have a popcorn popper, and I hate how when you make popcorn on the stove top it goes all crazy, so here’s what I do:
You will need:
a brown paper bag
whatever seasonings you like on your popcorn
Fill the bottom of your paper bag with the popping corn – I’m sorry I don’t have an exact measurement, but I really do just cover the bottom of the bag
Drizzle 2 drops of cooking oil in the bag and fold the top of the bag over 3 times
Cook in the microwave for 2 minutes
Season with whatever you like – I typically add kosher salt, pepper and a bit of olive oil. Yum!
Now…moving on to other fun topics.
I mentioned awhile back that I joined the DC Capital Striders for a run. I had a great time running with them…but I never went back. I realized that my search for a running group has been resembling Goldilocks’ search. This group was too small, this group was too far away, etc. While I enjoyed running with the Striders I felt that the group was a bit too small for me. I wanted a group large enough that I could hope that every once in awhile I might find someone who ran my pace.
Next I tried running with the Arlington / Alexandria Chapter of Mom’s Run This Town. I actually met up with some of the MRTT gals for the track workouts I’ve written about. I loved meeting up with these ladies and in particular, loved the chance to run with my friend Sue who is also a blogger. Sue is pretty awesome and so are all of the MRTT ladies. The only issue was that since the group is VA based, most of the runs aren’t convenient for me. So sadly, MRTT couldn’t be my regular running group — but I will still try and pop in on special occasions because the ladies are so great!
Finally…I tried running with the local DC Chapter of Black Girls Run. And I found a group that was just right for me. What I love about running with BGR is that there are so many runs close to my house! I’ve run with a group on the MBT in NE, by the Anacostia River and most frequently in near NE. I absolutely love this group of women and enjoy having so many options for weekly runs. The size of the group is perfect, there are plenty of runs close to my house and the women I’ve ran with are so friendly and encouraging that I am constantly motivated. Woohoo – success!
What is your favorite snack? Do you run with a group? If so, why’d you choose them?
