Spring Fever

March 11, 2013 By: project30in2012comment

Dreaming of this!

Dreaming of this!

It seems funny that after just writing about snow day ideas that I’m penning a post on spring fever. But this is DC and the weather changes at the drop of a hat. We’ve just had an absolutely beautiful weekend in DC that got me thinking about my favorite spring activities. What makes certain activities so much fun in the spring is that we are in that sweet spot for weather where it’s not too hot but you can be fine outside in a light jacket and in the sun, even forgo the jacket. It’s a delightful time.

Really, any outdoor activity is a winner during the spring and I love just about all of them. Football, running, long walks with Sasha and just sitting in my front yard with a book and particular pleasures. My ultimate dream is a hammock, the sun and a light blanket. Doesn’t that sound delightful? Here are some of my favorite spring activities, that I suggest you check out before the weather in DC goes from sweet to sweltering.

  1. It’s cliche, but this is perfect picnic weather. For me, that means heading to Lincoln Park with a blanket, some snacks and my pup.
  2. Take advantage of the weather and bike around town. I use Capital Bikeshare, but whether you rent or own your own bike, this is the perfect weather to bike around town.
  3. Run a race! It’s too late to sign up for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler and the Nike Women’s DC Half (2 races I’m running in April), but groups like Pacers and DC Striders both have information about races and fun runs.
  4. Join a sports league. As I’ve mentioned, I’m a dedicated Zog Sports member and love playing football. Follow my lead and join a social sports team — it’s fun, healthy and spring is the perfect time to get out and be active.

Hope this is helpful getting you started on your way to enjoying spring!
