Already the Runner’s World Summer Streak has done me good. I was scheduled to check out the City Sports Run Club on day two of the streak. However a thunderstorm shut that down. Normally, I would’ve just gone home. However, because I’m doing this challenge, I went over to my work gym and busted out a quick mile, followed by some foam rolling on my sore, sore legs. On day three of the challenge I ran a 5k, with an average per mile pace of 9:53. For me, anything under 10 minute miles is a huge accomplishment, so I was pretty proud.
I’m running the Zooma Annapolis 10k on Saturday (it’s gonna be hot — eek!) and so I tried to take it easy Thursday and Friday. Thursday, I ran a sweaty mile in the morning and Friday, I ran a very slow easy mile to shakeout my legs. I also just got my new foam roller in the mail Thursday, so I’ve been rolling as well.
I have to say that already, the Streak has helped me just get out there. We all know there are so many days where we just don’t want to run. I have a million reasons…I’m tired, I’m sore, I’m just being lazy. But you know, I’ve never ever gone running and after I’ve finished said “I wish I didn’t do that.” Never. So, what I’m learning in this challenge is that something is better than nothing and a slow mile is better than just sitting on the couch.
Happy Friday and to those who are racing this weekend, what are you running? My Zooma 10k race recap will be up on Monday!
