Thursday Night Plans

December 5, 2012 By: project30in2012comment

Day 5 of 31 Days of Project 30!

Do you have plans Thursday night? I will be in Portland, Maine but if your calendar is free and you are looking for a very “DC” evening, head on down to the Ellipse to watch the 2012 National Christmas Tree Lighting. This year is the 90th time the National Christmas Tree Ceremony will have taken place and with the warm weather we are having, Thursday’s program should be wonderful!
wh christmas treeI attended this two years ago and it was so bitterly cold that I left before the tree was actually lit. Now, if you don’t already have tickets, hit up your friends and facebook. You will need a ticket to enter the ceremony but I always know people with extra tickets (remember, tickets are free, so don’t let anyone try to sell you any) and I’m sure you do, too. This year’s line up is great with NPH (Neil Patrick Harris) hosting, Colbie Caillat, Babyface, Jason Mraz, Phillip Phillips (this kid and his name. goodness!), Ledisi and more performing.

Not able to leave the office to watch the tree be lit? You can watch online or tune in to PBS. You can also visit the Ellipse every night through Jan 1st (no tickets required) and check out each state’s tree, Santa’s workshop (specific times and dates) and the National Christmas Tree Railroad. It’s also a prime place for romance – I have a dear friend who got engaged at the National Christmas Tree last year!

Enjoy the tree! I’ll definitely be checking it out once I’m back in town.
