If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook you know that I’ve had some ankle pain over the past week or so. After I run, I’ve had a localized pain right above the large bone on both my ankles (more prominent on the right ankle). I’ve been icing, compressing and just started doing some ankle stretches. Last night I figured I’d go on with my planned run. I figured…no pain no gain, right?
I figured wrong. After one mile, I was near tears. I cut short my run and instead walked at a brisk pace. I slept in my compression socks and kept stretching but still woke up today with pain. I am stretching like crazy, icing and compressing. I actually think they are starting to feel better. But then I wondered if I should go in for PT. In runner-speak, PT means physical therapy not personal trainer. I got some great recommendations and think I may try it… I actually think that my ankle issues are a symptom of having weak ankles and so, while painful, I don’t think this is a lasting problem. I’m running a 10 mile race on Sunday and planning on resting until then, possibly with a small shakeout run on Friday.
So…do you have a physical therapist that you visit regularly? How have they helped you? Am I crazy to run Sunday if my ankles feel better?
