Two a Days + My Longest Run Ever!

October 14, 2013 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC12 Comments

This week was both my highest mileage week yet and the first time I ran two times in one day. I ran 30 miles this week and I’m not done peaking yet! I built a lot of confident this week and for the first time, I can actually envision running 26.2 miles.

M: Nike Training Club workout

T: AM: 4 miles with my running club. PM: 4.5 miles with Pacers running club. Wow. 2 a days are HARD. Not to mention, that the Pacers runners areΒ fast. Like, 7-8 minute mile fast. Yeah, my legs were not moving at that speed after running that AM. Not at all. So yeah, that happened. But while it was hard, I appreciated being able to get high mileage in on a weekday and may just try it again πŸ™‚

W: rest day

R: 3 dreadmill treadmill miles. Ugh. I hate that thing! It was pouring most of the day so I had no choice, but it was NOT fun.

F: 2-3 easy miles with my running club. I walked some of the run with a lady who is experiencing the same injury I’m working through and forgot to turn my app back on so I’m unsure exactly how far I ran.

S: rest day

Su: 16 miles! I ran 10 of my 16 with a new run buddy and that was awesome. The miles really did fly by and I so appreciated the company. We ran on the Crescent Trail to Bethesda, MD…

And, I was so so so glad to have a buddy for the majority of my miles!

While I was definitely very tired when I finished, I also felt confident that I could actually finish this marathon and not die! A great feeling πŸ™‚

How was your weekend? Any races or long runs? Do you ever do 2 a days?Β

So awesome! I’m off today so intend on doing 2 workouts. A run in a few minutes and strength training later. Hope that’s not a bad idea πŸ˜‰ You are going to be SO ready for that marathon!!

That sounds like a great idea! I’ve done 2 workouts in a day before and loved it. 2 runs was a bit tough – but your plan sounds great! Thanks for the support — I’m feeling pretty good right now! πŸ™‚

Running doubles (or 2 a days as you call them) are great. I did that a lot when I trained for a 50k. I love that you are feeling confident about finishing your race! Your positive attitude and mental toughness will definitely make race day much more enjoyable and meaningful. Good luck as your mileage increases!

This weekend was my first half, recap on the blog! And I haven’t ever done 2 a days. Well once I did two, but because I needed the miles for my training and wasn’t sure I would have time during our MRTT run.
