K and I have been married just over three weeks now and we are finally starting to settle in. The routines are being developed, we are (kind of) getting used to sharing a fairly small space and it’s all coming together. My sweet photographer hooked me up with a sneak peek of a couple of our pictures because I needed to submit one for my alumni magazine. So of course I’m sharing one of those pics here. I’m pretty excited to see the rest after viewing the preview pics! Anyway, that explains the picture that goes along with this post. Per usual, Iβm linking up with Jordon, Meredith and Mary and hope youβll check out their blogs.
As I mentioned, we are getting settled in. This has taken awhile (and is still in ongoing process) in part because we had some flooding in the back room of our home which required us to move everything out of that back room. The subsequent removal of carpet from that room and laying of tile meant that we still have quite a few belongings out of place. Out of place is basically my nightmare and it’s been a real challenge for me to cope with the clutter. That has definitely not helped with getting used to sharing a space with K! Thankfully, things are finally getting back in order and for that I’m grateful.
How did you go about getting used to having a permanent roomie?
Awww, what a beautiful photo!! Time is the only thing that will help you to adjust to a permanent roomie π Heck it’s been almost 8 years and sometimes I STILL feel like I’m not used to it π

thanks sue! and you are right…only time will help the adjustment π
Oh, Courtney! I’m feign anxious just reading your words, that’s how I feel about the clutter issue! Gah! It was hard for me, at first, to adjust to a new “permanent” roomie; over time, he’s learned how to respond to my neuroses and I’ve learned to handle his pack-rat tendencies-ha! Compromise! Beautiful wedding photo!

yes, it’s true, we need to both compromise! truth be told, he’s pretty good at that. π
Umm, that was supposed to be FEELING, not feign. Good grief, iPhone! π

You look so beautiful! How is the pup adjusting? Sorry about the flooding, but everything will be back together before you know it! Plus, now you have an extra set of muscles to move things around π

oh sasha LOVES k. she’s so happy to have him around all the time. π
It was definitely an adjustment for Mike and I as well. I agree with the other comment that said it just takes time. The other thing I’d add is open communication. There were times I just needed some alone time but if I tried to be subtle about it he;d offer to join me! I had to learn to be able to say that I just needed a bit of time to myself and he learned that it’s not a comment on him or our relationship.

this is so true! sometimes i do just need quiet time to myself – i have been able to say that so far, which has worked out well!
What a beautiful picture! I hate clutter too. I hope you guys get settled in soon!

thank you so much!
while my new roommates are not my husbands, they are definitely different personalities than me. i take a lot of time to open up to people and i need alone time a lot, and they’re very extroverted and could hang out and talk all night. my bedroom is tiny so i usually have to get used to the tiny space i share with my cat and her litterbox (gross) or force myself out into the common area and hope they’re okay with me being quiet. it’s tough getting used to it right now, but sometimes i get around it by just like, taking my laptop to do homework at the library or a coffeeshop instead of my tiny room or the busy common area. sharing: boo.
also you are gorgeous and your husband is HANDSOME.

the library is the BEST place to get some quiet alone time. i’m an introverted extrovert — i like being with people but really also enjoy quiet time by myself! completely get it. and honestly, for us, the toughest part about marriage so far (you know, in the whole 3 weeks we’ve been married) is the living together part! and thanks for the compliment — i agree he is quite handsome! he cleans up nicely π
Love the picture and can’t wait to see the rest!! Was your photographer local to Frederick? Share her info, if she is!
Also, someone else already said this, but time and communication are key to adjusting to permanent roommate-hood. My darling husband is not the mind-reader or subtle-hint observer that I think he is, in my head. π And while no one wants to, couples will fight — and though “sweating the small stuff” is great, in theory, not letting the small stuff fester and turn into big stuff is even better, IMHO. Love you both!
thanks neena! and yes, our photog is AMAZING. she’s based in gettysburg but traveled to frederick for no additional cost. her website is here: http://staceygillinphotography.com/ her specialty is newborns but as you can see, she’s amazing!
What a gorgeous picture!

Don’t get so caught up in work that yall forget about eachother. Make sure to plan a date night at least once a month, the more the better. You have ladies night out and he should have a night out with the guys! Communicate and compromise and always remember why yall decided to be with one another. Praying for many years of marriage for you two! Love you big cousin

You look so beautiful! I love yang picture! Getting adjusted takes time. I remember when I first got married, I used to feel like I wanted to go back home with my “mommy”. Lol I had withdrawals and I think they’re completely normal. Before you know it, the new living arrangement will feel like you’ve been doing it forever.
Congratulations on your marriage! Cheers to a lifetime of happiness and over abundant love!

Getting used to living with Andrew was an adjustment for sure, but it didn’t take too long to learn each other’s little quirks!
