Wedding Wednesday: Transportation Thoughts

February 26, 2014 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC14 Comments

Hey, happy Wedding Wednesday! Per usual, I’m linking up with Jordon and Meredith for this week’s Wedding Wednesday fun. Make sure to check out their posts and everyone else who is linking up today!

K and I are currently figuring out if we need transportation for the wedding. Initially, I thought it was an unnecessary expense. Our ceremony and reception are at the same location so there is no need for transportation between sites. However, I have 8 bridesmaids and was just thinking about how I will get them all from our get ready site to the venue. We attended an expo at our venue this past weekend and talked to a couple of limo vendors. I’m curious what others have done to transport their ladies to the wedding site. How do other people do it? I’m pretty sure we’ll need transport — otherwise, how will we get there? Last summer, when I was in my dear friend’s wedding one of the other maids’ hubbies took us to the church, which was great. However, I’m not sure that would work for us — we’d need a pretty big car! ๐Ÿ™‚

Am I overlooking an option here? What did you do?

I’ve been thinking of this too, and I don’t even have as many girls as you do. We might be moving between the ceremony and reception, which makes it a little more complicated. I’m in the same boat as you — it seems like kind of a waste of money, but it would make logistics a whole lot easier. An alternative could be to do something like rent a larger SUV for the day or 2 days (that might only be like $50/day), if you don’t have one you can borrow. D could cart us in that, if you’d like ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m not sure how realistic it is, but seems like the midpoint between multiple regular cars and an actual limo.

My dad has a friend who owns/runs an executive sedan service up there. I’m not sure how much it would be or if he even has the right size, but I can ask him if he has any ideas.

Oh! That is a good middle range idea — you are such a smartie! I’m going to price everything out — I’d love your friend’s dad’s company info if you don’t mind ๐Ÿ™‚ And likewise for your wedding — K would be happy to drive us if needed ๐Ÿ™‚ Let’s put those men to work!

Our ceremony and reception were at different sites, so we opted to book a party bus. Just remember that something unplanned and unexpected will always happen on your wedding day (whether we like it or not!) and our party bus was in a car accident on its way to the hotel to pick up my husband and his groomsmen. My dad and our Best Man took care of finding enough cars to get our 14 bridesmaids and groomsmen, plus the two of us, taken care of, but its a part of our wedding day I’ll never forget. Lesson: always have a back up plan.

We used Uber to get the wedding party from the hotel to the wedding site – got SUVs. It wasnt cheap cheap, but less expensive than renting a shuttle which had like a five hour minimum. With so many peeps though you would maybe need two. (as an aside, Uber ran out near our wedding since it was near the airport, I dont know if it would service your location)

Hmmm, interesting! I didn’t realize y’all had done that. I doubt uber is out in the mountains of frederick, but that’s totally out of the box – love it!

you’re a runner, just put on your running shoes ๐Ÿ˜‰ kidding!! I like the renting 2 SUV’s idea. Cheaper than a limo service most likely.

LOL – I know right? But the HAIR!!! LOL – I’m still debating if I will straighten my hair or not. If I do it means I can’t run in the AM :/ Natural hair problems…

we rented a party bus for all guests to and from the wedding/reception especially for those who may have had too much to drink since it was open bar!. i think transportation is key!

I had two of my good guy friends come pick us up and one of my bridesmaids had her car so it worked out! You could also have a couple of the groomsmen come pick you up too!

I’m glad you’re thinking about this ahead of time. One of my best friend’s forgot this detail and at the last minute we were trying to figure out how everyone was getting to the wedding site from her parent’s house (since all of our dates had dropped us off and were meeting us at the wedding.) My sister had her wedding/reception at the same venue and a bridesmaid’s father that lived in the area drove us from the hotel to the venue – he even dressed up! There were only 5 of is total, but I’m sure you could find two people willing to help out. If you want to go the limo/party bus route and are getting married in the DC area, I highly recommend Point to Point limo. My wedding and reception were in seperate venues so it was necessary for us to get a limo so our wedding party could get to the reception from the church. They were reasonably priced and great to work with and had been recommended by a few friends who had used them as well (the founders went to my high school haha). Good luck!
