What’s Next?

September 17, 2014 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC40 Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot about what my next big goal is now that I’ve run my fall goal race (the Navy Air Force Half – if you haven’t read that recap yet, go check it out). I am currently signed up for the following races:

  • Clarendon Day 5k and 10k on September 27. This is a double, where I will run the 5k at 8am and then the 10k at 9am. I ran it last year and while it’s hard running two races back to back it’s really fun. This year will be extra awesome since we’re having a little Oiselle meetup and brunch that day. Y’all know how I feel about bacon post run!
  • Richmond Half Marathon on November 15. Right now I’m signed up for the half, while K is running the full…however…

Decisions, decisions! I’m currently debating switching to the full in Richmond or signing up for the Rehoboth Beach Marathon December 6th. I originally wanted to run the half in Richmond so I could support K (who is running it as his first full marathon) but he doesn’t mind if I decide to race the full, so I have permission to sign up for that if I want. The advantages of Richmond are that it doesn’t require an extra trip (we’ve already planned for and budgeted for this one) and I know and LOVE the course. It would be awesome to finish 2013 with the marathon that was my first.

RICHMOND

The advantages of the Rehoboth Marathon are that I could really race the half in Richmond and try to go sub 2 since I’m so close right now. Also, I could jump in with K as he finishes the marathon, which was the original goal. Also, running Rehoboth gives me a couple more weeks to train. I’m torn!

I have a little while to decide but I’m going to force myself to make a decision by the end of the week. I think I know which way I’m leaning so be on the lookout for my announcement soon!

What’s next on your schedule?

You are a machine! Good luck on the decision – either way sounds great. I have not been able to string together any real sort of training lately so I have a handful of shorter races on the agenda for the rest of the year, but no real goal races. Can’t wait for the brunch meet-up at Clarendon Day though.

I really want to go after Boston next year and I’m eyeing the B&A Trail marathon (from what I’ve read, it’s paved, so not really a trail marathon) in Annapolis as my qualifying attempt. I’ve done summer and fall marathons over the years, but this would be my first spring one, so we’ll see how winter training goes!

jumping in on this – my roommates and i are tossing around the idea of doing shamrock 2015. i’d want to do dolphin challenge (techhhhnically i’ll be training for a full marathon for end of april and my plan for some reason has me doing 20 that weekend but there’s another 20 miler in the plan so i’m improvising, won’t be the first time πŸ˜‰ ). y’all with me? πŸ˜‰

Hmm…well, I can’t wait to hear what you decide; either way you go, you know you’re going to have a fantastic time in Richmond and I’m so excited to hear that K will be running his first marathon. You are a rock star! I’m so proud of you!!! I think either way, you’re good. Planning a trip to Rehobeth could be super fun if you can make it work. Do you think you’ll be worried about K if you’re not running the full in Richmond together? No that you need to worry, of course πŸ™‚ just thinking about what would make you most comfortable. You’re making me want to find a half again…

I also vote Rehoboth – opportunity for an extra little weekend day trip, cooler weather for a longer race, opportunity to root for K and support him at the end of the full, and chance to go sub-2:00 in the Richmond half!

No big plans for me right now. Just ran my first race in a while (thanks for commenting, by the way!) and I have a turkey trot and a December 5K planned. Mostly I’m just looking to increase my mileage and have fun with some shorter distances before training for my March half marathon (RuntheBluegrass in Lexington, KY) begins.

I just registered for the Nurse’s Half Marathon. It’s a small local race here in Vegas along some of the most beautiful scenery! It’s one of the advantages of keeping yourself fit–registering for races 3 weeks prior.

So many great races to choose from and so little time to run them all in! You’ve got great reasons for both races, but from a finances standpoint Richmond seems to be the smarter option. Army Ten Miler is my next big race, and then after that I haven’t decided what is next. Shamrock is the most likely candidate right now though!

I bet it would be really fun to cheer him on for his first marathon and run with him at the end. While I always love running races, sometimes it’s great to take a small step back. And you’ll be able to go for that sub-2 – you got it! Good luck!
