What’s your mantra?

July 23, 2013 By: project30in201214 Comments

A week or so ago, I participated in a fun twitter chat where the question was asked about favorite signs seen in a race. It made me think because my favorite sign actually turned into my running mantra and I repeat it to myself often in races, on training runs and the like.

My mantra!

My mantra!

I love this mantra so much because it reminds me that I am lucky I get the opportunity to run – and that I won’t have that opportunity forever. There will be a day when I will be unable to just wake up and run six miles because I want to. So I try to appreciate the fact that I can run and be grateful for that fact. It’s also a reminder of just how strong I am. I’ve been guilty of giving in to negative self talk before on runs and saying this mantra in my head forces me to remember that hey, I can do this.

They say that positive thinking really works and I must say, I agree. Thinking positive things during my runs works out so much better than mentally beating myself up!

What is your running mantra? How has it helped you?

I love that mantra! Another one I like is : I run because others can’t.

I have several – Today’s was “Look at you! Two years ago, you would have sworn you would never be able to do this.” Kinda wordy, but true!

My two favorite mantras right now are :
“I run this body” and “ambitious goals make for outstanding achievements”.
    🙂
