Well, I made it through another (hot, humid) week of training. Barely. This past week was a bit unusual because I spent the beginning of the week in WV with K, celebrating our anniversary. We had a delightful time (and I’ll share more later) but it’s always nice to get back to home and routine. You can see my racing plan for the rest of the year here, but in October I’m already signed up for the Wineglass Marathon on October 4, the Army Ten Miler on October 11 and the Marine Corps Marathon on October 25.
As I mentioned above, the week got off to a different start because I was out of town. That, plus a hectic work schedule meant for only one Pure Barre class. Boo! At least I got my runs in!
Monday: 1 Run Streak mile
Tuesday: 1 Run Streak mile
Wednesday: A terrible attempt at a tempo run. It was hot, my legs were dead and it was just awful. I was supposed to run 2 easy, 2 at 9:06 and then cool down with 2 easy. I ran 2 easy, 2 at 9:26 and .5 for a cool down home. It sucked. But sometimes it’s just not your day.
Thursday: 1 Run Streak mile
Friday: 1 mile on the treadmill (ugh) and Pure Barre
Saturday: Fit Foodie 5k. I’ll have a full recap later this week, but this was a really humid (like 95% humidity) race. I didn’t PR, but ran a solid 28:03, with my last mile my fastest mile.
Sunday: Made up for missing my Saturday long run on Sunday. 10 ridiculously humid miles (noticing a pattern here?).
Total: 22 miles + Pure Barre
This week I’m hoping for lower humidity and fresher legs. On that note, off to foam roll!
Tell me about your training last week!
The humidity is no joke here too! I keep trying to remind myself how fast and fresh I will be for Chicago when October comes and its cooler. Have a great week!
yes, that’s my constant mantra too – just waiting for the fall 🙂
Love your blog! Seriously, the humidity sucks! I’m starting to wake up earlier to get in a run.
yes! let me know when you want to run?
it’s going to be 100 tomorrow. 100!!!!! ugh… this is not a good start to summer! great seeing you this weekend 🙂

no, not a good start to summer. yuck!
I cannot believe how hot and humid it’s been lately! It’s crazy. I’m glad you are getting in the miles even while traveling! It sounds like you had a great week.

the humidity is out of control. it makes running more like swimming!
Looks like you totally killed it this week. Humidity is not my friend either! Everyone was at the Fit Foodie, I’m bummed I missed it! Also your October sounds slam packed! Can’t wait to read more.

fit foodie was super fun!! 🙂
I need to do some foam rolling this week. I did a 5k on Friday plus Pure Barre yesterday. I don’t know if it’ll be a recover week, but I know my legs will appreciate the foam roller.

running + pure barre = perfect combo!
I don’t deal well with humidity, so I’m very grateful I live in a dry place. I don’t feel like doing anything when it’s humid, let alone workout. I have no idea how people do it!

Good Job! Humid weather is hard to run in, it’s like you can’t breathe. Last week was a slow one for me I did 2 5ks and a little lifting and a hike this week will be better.

I am so glad I don’t have to deal with that Summer humidity here. We usually have a nice little ocean breeze to help keep it to a minimum. Have a great week of training!

The heat and humidity was crappy. After last weekend’s awful race miles I was ready for the worst but my 10 on Saturday morning ended up not being too bad. I think it being slightly cooler and cloudy in the AM helped! This week looks like a different story, ugh!
Isn’t the humidity just insane?! DC summer is here to stay.

It is brutal. Although I just ran a mile and the humidity was really low. That was nice!
Nice job on getting that run in on Sunday (I waited until the afternoon… faux pas…so I had to go inside). Hopefully the rain will cool off the area this week… doubtful though (b/c I thought the same last week).

This heat and humidity is killer! I don’t remember it being this warm last June. Hopefully we’ll see some relief soon.

I can’t believe how hot it is by you! Here all it does is rain. And rain…
Great work on the training in spite of all that heat.

Don’t beat yourself up about that tempo run. Humidity sucks the life out of me! I’m supposed to be starting week 2 of Twin Cities Marathon training, but I haven’t yet cracked open my plan. Can you say winging it?

I have heard great things about Wineglass! You’re well on your way to doing an awesome job!
i’m SUPER excited about the race!
I have a tremendous amount of respect for those of you who brave heat+humidity to do your running. At least that will prepare you for any race day conditions.

It’s been so humid here that just going outside for a walk is a lot. Can’t even imagine trying to run in this!

Way to go – great week of training! I’m so over this heat and humidity. I am never one of those people who is excited for summer lol in the springtime I dread that summer is around the corner. Give me 65-70 degrees year round please!

I love the summer except when it’s time to run. The struggle is so real!
I need to remember how much I hate heat and humidity when I am whining about cold temperatures. It really is so hard to gauge where your fitness is when you are struggling thanks to the warmer weather.

So true. And yes, I need to remember this when it’s frozen and icy outside 🙂
My training has been non-existant. Went for my first run in two weeks today and my hip started aching again…so frustrating! Hopefully we can get a break from the humidity soon!
Oh no 🙁 today the weather is great!
I’m training for Wineglass too! Which training plan are you using? I’m with you about the humidity. I feel like I’m dying out there. Good luck.

Good luck to you as well! I’m using a version of run less, run faster. I started with that plan and tweaked it a bit. What about you?
