This is my fourth year hosting the Year of Running link up – first started by Amanda of Miss Zippy. It’s a lot of fun and easy to play along – answer all the questions in your own blog post and add your link to the link up. I always love reading everyone’s answers. The link up will remain open through the month of January!
- Best race experience: This is a really tough question because I really didn’t have a great year of racing. I haven’t talked about this much on the blog since I blog much less infrequently now, but I’ve had lingering pain basically all year which meant that I didn’t have many amazing races. HOWEVER. The New York City Marathon was just the best day and my favorite race experience EVER. It is such an amazing experience. More details on that here.
- Best run: Holiday lights run! It’s my favorite run all year and always such fun!
- Best new piece of running gear: I love my Koala clip – it gets the job done and keeps my phone dry and safe while I’m running.
- Best running advice you’ve received this year: Oh this is hard. This has been a really strange year of running- mystery injuries (which I’m still kind of dealing with), difficult runs and terrible weather. So I think the best piece of advice that I’ve read that has stuck with me is “keep showing up.” Des Linden shared this simple but powerful phrase and I reflect on it often.
- Most inspirational runner: My friend Emily has gotten more seriously into running this year and in the span of one year ran her first, second and third half marathons and has just kicked ass and jumped in to running with both feet. She’s so thoughtful and earnest in her joy of learning more about the sport and her excitement makes me excited about running. It’s fun experiencing someone else discovering the amazing running community. So I’d say Emily for sure.
- Favorite picture from a run or race this year: Duh, this pic from mile 23 of the NYC marathon.
- Race experience you would repeat in a heartbeat: Same answer as last year – Rehoboth. It is quickly becoming a must-do late fall tradition. The race, the girls weekend, all of it is just the best! But also NYC because it’s amazing.
- If you could sum up your year in a couple of words what would they be? A roller coaster.
Share your year of running by linking up below. The link up will be open through the end of January!
One of these years we actually need to meet up at Rehoboth. It’s my favorite way to end my racing year. Hope 2019 is an amazing year for you.

Oh I can’t believe we’ve never seen each other there!!
I only ran the NYC half marathon but my thoughts mimic yours on the full. Running in NYC is absolutely amazing!
I hope your mystery pains go away and that 2019 is a good running year for you.
Thanks so much!! Cheers to 2019!
Thanks for hosting this again! Sorry to hear it’s been a tough run but here’s to 2019 being better 🙂

Cheers to that!
For some reason I can’t comment on your blog but wanted to say thanks for linking up and I enjoyed hearing about your year!
Are you running nYCM again? You have almost convinced me to do it….
You should do it! No, I’m signed up for shamrock in March. I’ll be at nyc volunteering / cheering though!
I’m sorry that 2018 was such a rough running year for you. Even though I had some good races, my day to day runs were less that stellar and quite frustrating at time…
Thanks for hosting the linkup again!

Thanks for linking up – I’m hoping to get a handle on this injury and have a great 2019 🙂
Thanks so much for hosting this again, Courtney; it’s always such a treat and gives me a reason to reflect on some of the year’s events and challenges. I know that good things are in store for you; I hope you can get some answers soon and get that body to cooperate. I’ll be cheering for you!
Thanks so much, Tara – I’m excited about the new year and getting this injury under control! So I can go out and run fast like you 🙂
Thanks so much for hosting the link up this year! I missed linking up last year and really regretted it! A roller coaster year but you just kept going and going and going! And I have just seen on Facebook that this was your highest mileage year ever. Well done lady!
Thanks for hosting Courtney! I always enjoy filling these out and seeing what I’ve been able to accomplish running in a year. I would love to run one of those east coast runs. One of these days I’ll get around to it. 🙂

Thanks for hosting again, Courtney. I always love to see other people’s running recaps!
You mentioning the Koala clip reminds me that I received a coupon code for it but I never ordered one! I should get on that and see what all the fuss is about 🙂
2018 was a wild year. Here’s to kicking those injuries to the curb in 2019!
