The title of this post is usually the reaction I get when I tell folks about what takes up much of my time and energy – my coed recreational football team. I decided that it was about time I really sat down and wrote a bit about the group of folks that help keep me active (even in the snow!), keep me laughing, and always, always keep both my calendar AND my glass full. My football team, the Untouchables.
Back in late August of 2010, I decided that it would be fun to play on a recreational football team. I’d thrown the idea around with a couple of friends and eventually stumbled upon ZogSports, a league that was about to begin its first season in DC. It was perfect. Zog hosted a happy hour prior to the beginning of the season in order for people to meet and pick up extra players, if necessary. I went with a couple of the girls on my team (we still needed many more bodies) and left that night with four new friends and a complete football team.
If you grew up playing on a sports team, one of the things you probably loved the most was the feeling of belonging to something. It’s the same as an adult. I love spending my time with the people in this league. Through multiple seasons of football my team has gotten better each season and managed to retain most of our core members. Somehow during the early games, happy hours and (sometimes) hangovers, something happened. We stopped being just a group of late 20/30 somethings who play football. We started becoming a true group of friends. Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s not perfect. Like any family, we’ve had our disagreements, issues and even gotten close to an actual fight (fortunately, that last one actually involved our team unifying against another jerky crazy annoying team). But at the end of the day, these people are a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
By the way, our first game of the season is Saturday – wish us luck!
*Not to mention that I love getting to tell folks I play football and wait to watch the look of surprise come*

Aww love this! Zog Sports is just coming to Atlanta this year and I thought about trying to join. You’re quite a good promoter 🙂
