There are just over two months left before I will run my very first marathon (I’m running the Richmond Marathon November 16th). I’ve decided instead of just posting all my training recaps each week (although I’ll still do that some as well) that I will highlight some exciting running stuff for the upcoming week on Mondays.
This week I will be running 12 miles, which is my longest solo run EVER (of course I’ve run 13.1 many times in races, but never ran more than 10 during my training). I’m pretty excited about it. I am traveling to Portland, ME for two days this week and am going to try and get in a long-ish run while I’m there. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to try and do my long run in ME or just a 6 miler, but I know some people do a longer run mid-week. I usually can’t swing a 2 hour run on a workday (and also that would mean I couldn’t do my favorite post long run routine of shower, breakfast and nap while wearing compression socks) but may try it out while I’m traveling.
The other thing I will be doing this week is working on recovering from a super fun weekend in Atlantic City. As I mentioned last week, I spent the weekend celebrating the upcoming nuptials of one of my best gals. We had an absolute blast and stayed up WAY past my bedtime. What happens in AC stays in AC, but I’ll leave you with one pic and a note that the tutus were a big hit.
Have you ever done your long run mid–week? Are you a tutu fan? 🙂
I’m running that one too!
Woohoo! It’s going to be a great race!
Fun tutus! I have shifted longer runs to a Monday or Friday, but never a real mid-week since my weekdays are so crazy. Your weekend will feel so different without it – more free time! 🙂
Thanks – I kinda want to wear my tutu every day 🙂 I’m hopeful I will be able to squeeze in the 12 miler while in Portland. Maybe I’ll just “get lost” while running — while wearing my Road ID of course 🙂
That seriously looks like a fun time! =) I am getting my first 10 miler this next weekend. YIKES! Planning a track run tonight. =)
It was seriously fun and I am seriously tired 🙂 Good luck with your 10 miler!
Nope, always on Sunday morning for me. I would be way too exhausted to even function at work if I did it on a weeknight evening.
Agreed — I’m shooting for a weekday while I’ll be traveling — after the run my only responsibilities are to eat breakfast and make it to the airport (where I’ll be wearing compression socks, obviously!). I don’t think I could do it during a normal week day morning.
My training has me doing some weeks where I run 5-10-5-R-10-20. I love longer runs during the week. I like tutus but only if I am wearing them while I am not running. It’s too much for me. I sweat like I am melting, too many layers. 🙂
Oh my goodness- I didn’t even think about wearing my tutu while racing! TOTALLY doing that for my next race 🙂
Lol! Ppl do it out here all the time! Rock it!!
So excited for you to run your first marathon! You will rock your long run! 🙂
Thanks Amanda! I’m getting excited / terrified 🙂
Ha! Love that pic 🙂 so fun. I’ve never done a long run mid week but know others that have for various reasons and haven’t heard any complaints 😉
I’m gonna give it a go tomorrow and I’ll report back 🙂
