#2 Run a half marathon, pt. 4

March 12, 2012 By: project30in20125 Comments

I  have a confession to make. I will be so.freaking.happy when this half marathon is OVER. In less than a week, I will have completed my second half marathon and I’m quite certain that the desire to run another one won’t overtake me for another, oh…ten years. 🙂 I kid. But only a tiny bit.

I’ll say it – I am tired of running. I’ve never been a runner to begin with and the three months of training have started to take their toll. I’m sick of my long runs, I’m sick of my short runs — I’m just sick of running. Okay, my rant is done and I’ll stop whining.

I signed up for this race because I knew it’d be a challenge. I knew it wouldn’t be easy. And it hasn’t been. It was tough to run in 20 degree weather in the darkness after work. It did get easier once the temps started getting warmer and the days started getting longer. I think that one of the most difficult things about training for this race is I’m missing my running buddy (and one of my best friends) T. Every major race I’ve run over a 5k, I’ve run with T. This year, she unfortunately was too late to sign up for the Rock and Roll half, so it’s just me.

I’m most looking forward to delicious brunch after the race – it’s a well-honed tradition and always worth the work!

Lest you think I’ll be a lazy bum after the race, I’m planning on running a 10k in May and signing up for more BarMethod classes! Plus, you know, my rec football and soccer teams. I may complain some, but lazy I am not! 🙂

I ran this half several years ago and I will say–it’s a great race. They take you along all of the nice DC sights and it helps to have that to distract you. I’m sure you will do great! I feel you tho I’m getting sick of the CB training and I haven’t nearly been as dedicated as you’ve been. I think I may limit myself to 10ks when this is all said and done. Much easier to train for and my body doesn’t hate me as much at that distance. I’ll be thinking of you on race day!

Thanks Fran! I haven’t been quite as diligent as I should’ve been – but it’ll all be over soon! You should do the Cap Hill Classic 10k in May! And you are so right, MedalSlut 🙂
