Today I’m linking up with MCM Mama Runs, My No-Guilt Life and Run the Great Wide Somewhere for a 2015 Goals Update. I’ve been doing monthly goals (look out for July’s Goals on Saturday, here were June’s goals) but it’s important to look back at my goals for the year and assess how I’m doing. So this prompt came at the perfect time!
Here were my goals for this year:
- Learn more Spanish. On our honeymoon, I was inspired to refocus on learning Spanish. I speak it conversationally (kind of) and want to increase my proficiency.
- Update old blog pictures and old posts. If you read some older posts here, you’ll notice that some of the pictures are old and some are missing. I really want to take the time to go through and fix this.
- Be proactive about staying healthy – running-wise. This year I had some little things here and there that bothered me and I basically ignored them. Not smart and I know better. This year, I’m going to be proactive about resting when needed and about talking to a doctor if pain doesn’t go away. Pain-free running for 2015!
- Track my miles. I’ve never really committed to doing this, but this is the year! I’m going to use a combination of tracking devices but mainly I’ll use my Believe journal to track my workouts. I’m pretty excited about this – obviously, I like numbers.
- Try a tri. Yes, I’m putting a sprint tri on my list. I need a bike in order to make this happen, but it’s still going on the list.
And here’s how I’m doing with each goal:
- Learn more Spanish. Big ole FAIL. I have not learned any more Spanish this year. I probably need to take a class but I’m just not sure how that would fit into my schedule right now so this is (sadly) on the backburner for now. I’m contemplating doing Rosetta Stone – has anyone done this?
- Update old blog pictures and old posts. A work in progress. I’m working on this but it is VERY time consuming and will take me quite a bit of time. But it’s happening!
- Be proactive about staying healthy – running-wise. Going well. I’ve been doing PT exercises, keeping up with my Pure Barre classes and just being committed to being stronger.
- Track my miles. Yep! I’ve been using my Believe Training Journal almost every day in addition to making sure all my runs are logged through Strava.
- Try a tri. Yes, I’m putting a sprint tri on my list. Done! I ran an indoor tri in March and loved it!
I feel pretty good about my progress with my goals, of course with the exception of Spanish, where there has been no progress. But big picture, I’m getting to where I wanted to be for this year. I can’t believe the year is already half way over. Thanks again to MCM Mama Runs, My No-Guilt Life and Run the Great Wide Somewhere for the topic idea!

Have you checked in on your yearly goals? How are you progressing towards them?
Yay for getting the tri done! I missed some trail runs I would have liked to use for my trail running goal, but now I’m thinking of the Boordy 5K in August – have you run that one before? My friend recommended an App for French or Language courses – I’ll get the name of it to pass to you.

I have an app on my phone…I’m just not using it anymore :/ I’ve not heard of Boordy…where is that?

I’m running Boordy!!!

hmmmmm…. 🙂
It’s so great to have set goals like that…looks like you’re doing pretty well! Learning a language on top of everything else you are trying to do is a tough one, but I suppose it’s always good to have a goal like that! Keep at it!

It’s definitely not easy – I’ll get there soon!
Every time I think about going back and updating old blog posts, I feel so overwhelmed! Its such a tedious and time consuming process.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running recently posted…15 in 2015 Update
Yes. It’s super overwhelming. I try to focus on just one post at a time and I don’t give myself a time limit.
Sounds like you are doing pretty well with your goals! And you still have 6 more months to go…plenty of time to learn Spanish:)

Hahaha, in theory 🙂 Thanks Lisa!
Courtney, you’re doing GREAT! The blogging “maintenance” can be very time-consuming; I never realize how much time I’ve spent until I look down and see that two hours have gone by – ha! I have both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Spanish, have studied in Spanish-speaking countries, and while not completely qualified to give you this suggestion, I do feel confident in saying that I would recommend Rosetta Stone based on what I’ve heard from some Spanish professors and other language specialists. If you can find a good deal on it, go for it. Great post! I thought about doing one of these tomorrow, but I think I’ll wait; hope you have a great day!

Thanks Tara – especially for your thoughts on Rosetta Stone. I really just wish I could move to a Spanish speaking country for a year or so 🙂
I use to ALWAYS track my miles but since being injured the only training run i’ve done was 4 miles!!! Yup, 4 miles all year! I did 9 races though.
I went through the process of updating an resizing blog pictures too. It takes forever an I still dont know if I’m done.
I’ve heard Rosetta Stone is really good, but I can’t justify the price, unless it’s gone down the last few years. I don’t seem to have the gift to learn a new language, and Spanish is one I haven’t tried.

Great job! I have not checked in on my yearly goals but I know that so far we’ve bought a house and I’ve increased my coaching clients and so I think I’ve been doing pretty good.

that’s definitely a good year so far!
I’ve heard great things about Duolingo for learning languages – and I belive the app is free.
I used to be crazy focused on goals, but it started to take the enjoyment out of living, so I’ve stepped back from them and I find that I’m happier because of it.

Yeah, I have Duolingo – I’ve just not been using it! Spanish is on the backburner for right now, sadly.
Hah… I read this comment after I posted mine.
I LOVE Rosetta Stone. If you are disciplined enough to do it a few times a week, I think it is well worth the price (and ps– you can get a few license numbers and share with friends…shhh). I use it for Greek and was amazed aat how intuitive the process is. Big thumbs up from me!

This is a great time to update your goals mid-way through the year. I think it is great that not only you listed your goals but how you will accomplish them. I am rooting for you.

Thanks Ivanna – I’ve been really good with goal setting this year. Minus the Spanish of course.
I think that if you’re trending in the right direction for all but one of your goals (and already have one totally crossed off the list), that you’re doing a great job. I have never tried Rosetta Stone before, but I hear people say good things about DuoLingo, which is Rosetta Stone but web-based and FREE! Check it out, and great job on the goals!
Good progress on your goals! Still a few months to get that Spanish going 😉

Awesome job with your goals! I’m terrible with languages, so I’d probably fail at the Spanish-learning, too.

Great job Courtney! By the way I’ve had learn more Spanish on my list of things to do for a while and just picked up Rosetta Stone. My brother travels a lot internationally for work and swears but it! Now I’ve just got to make time to use it, right?
Michelle @ Running with Attitude recently posted…Mid-Year Goals Update
I have a 3-year subscription to Rosetta Stone – Spanish and I haven’t picked it up in a while. I really need to get on that! I really like the program. ‘m determined to become fluent in Spanish within the next two years!

love the progress on your goals! learning spanish should be on my list as my entire boyfriend’s family speaks it but I need to find the time
Spanish!! Hmm… I’ve been doing ‘duolingo.’ I was being REALLY faithful, but I’ve dropped off a bit the past couple weeks. I like it because it’s free and fairly straightforward. You are CRUSHING your goals. :)) Go go go girl!

One of my ongoing goals is to speak more Spanish. A lot of my patients are Spanish speaking, and being a chatty kind of gal, I want to be able to speak with them, conversationally. It is a work in progress. I have a pretty good handle on medical Spanish, but small talk is a challenge. Those damn pronouns trip me up! And everything I say is in the present tense…

That’s great that you are using it! My church has a Spanish life group – I need to start attending!!
Great job on your goal progress! I’ve heard wonderful things about Rosetta Stone, definitely worth a try. Thanks for linking up with us today!
Doing a sprint tri is on my list of things I want to do this year! I thinks it’s awesome that you do monthly goals. This is something that I need to start doing!

Love your honesty! 3 out of 4 is a lot better than most or is that 2.5 out of 4! Great blog. Nic
Thanks – I’d say it’s 3/4 🙂
Way to hold yourself accountable! If the only thing you need to catch up on is Spanish then I would call that a life win. Go you!!
