Well, this was an interesting week. I mentioned in last week’s recap that I’d been experiencing some odd ankle pain. Unfortunately, it had to get worse before it could get better. The wheels fell off on Wednesday and I spent most of the week trying to heal my weak ankles. I purchased resistance bands and KT Tape and even took a sick day on Thursday when I couldn’t put weight on my right ankle without crazy pain. By the end of Thursday, my ankles felt better, but I was really unsure of how Sunday was going to go. I decided to rest until race day, with the hope being that I could finish in roughly the same about of time it took me to run Cherry Blossom in April. Amazingly, I cut 5 minutes off my Cherry Blossom time. What a weird week!
Monday: rest day
Tuesday: 3.62 miles with BGR. My ankle hurt, but it was a good run otherwise. In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have run…35:51
Wednesday: 1 mile run that nearly brought me to tears. I ran 1 mile to meet another BGR group but the run there was on an uneven surface and it HURT so bad that I knew I couldn’t continue. I walked for 3 miles, then biked 1 mile home. To add insult to injury, it started raining on my way home. Ouch. 10:21 for 1 mile, remaining miles untimed
Thursday: Rest day – I tried to rehab my ankle through RICE + strengthening exercises. As a result, my ankle felt MUCH better than the day before but I decided to be smart and rest until my race Sunday.
Friday: Resting the ankle.
Saturday: Resting the ankle.
Sunday: Annapolis 10 Miler. This race will get a post of its own, but suffice to say, I’m glad I ran it and I’m glad I ran it with a friend. (Also quick sidenote…on the Annapolis 10 Miler results page, the average pace is calculated from gun time, not YOUR net chip time. I almost had a heart attack because based on the gun time, my pace is 11:xx – and as you’ll see below, I ran all my miles well under 11. I won’t go into detail about the huffing and puffing I did before I figured out it was gun time, NOT chip time :)) 1:46:16
Here are my splits from Sunday’s race:
How was your training this past week? Did you race?
Congrats on a great race!
Thank you Emily!!
Awesome! That would have given me a heart attack too. For sure.
Thanks! Haha, it’s such a silly thing but I worked hard for that time and was like, no way! 🙂
Sounds like a good week! Great job on the 10 miler!
Thank you Betsy! It ended up being a good week, even though the start was rocky!
Congrats on your race. You are lucky if I am having ankle problems I am usually out of commission for a while.
Thanks Nikki! Going to see a doc tomorrow just to make sure everything is going to be okay 🙂
Very glad to hear the injury let you run Sunday and seem’s to be pretty much better! Congrats on your finish!!!
Thank you! I’m seeing a doc tomorrow just to make sure 🙂
Congrats on the PR! You were smart in resting/rehabbing your ankle the way you did. I hope your running continues to improve. I like the idea of writing a training recap. I think I will do the same on my blog. Thank you for the running (and blogging) inspiration!
Thank you! Can’t wait to read your training recaps 🙂
Congrats on a great race! Hope your ankle is okay!
Thanks — congrats to you on your 10 miler as well!! 🙂
Congrats on the PR! I hope your ankle feels better!
Thank you Kristy! Ankle still feels a bit tweaky so getting it checked out today 🙂
Hope that ankle’s 100%! Too many hills in that race for me!
Thanks Emma – heading to the doc because it’s just a bit tweaky. BUT it feels much better than last week! 🙂
Nice run, hope the ankle is feeling better 🙂
