B&A Trail Half Training Recap, Week 11

February 19, 2017 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC21 Comments

The weather this week continued on its crazy super cold one day / shorts weather the next pattern but it warmed up in time for the weekend which led to a wonderful weekend of runs – and my second weekend in a row wearing shorts! I can’t believe that I’m just over a month away from my goal race. Time is flying! Anyway, on the this week’s half marathon training recap. Each week during this training cycle (I’m training for the B&A Trail Half Marathon – a relatively small, rails to trail half in March), I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. I’ve started a weekly link up for Training Recaps – let’s support each other as we train this winter! Please do link up!

B&A Trail Half Training Recap

Monday: 4 easy miles to start the week.

Tuesday: Redemption after last week’s terrible workout.

After I set a new PR in Phoenix, I knew I had to change my goal for the BA Half to reflect my new PR. I had a difficult time settling on my goal but finally did so over the weekend (look for the blog post on this tomorrow). With a new (faster) goal, comes new nerves about hitting paces. After my miserable attempt at 3×1 @ 8:20 a week ago, today’s 4×1.5 @ 8:20 seemed near impossible. I felt like I needed a good run to get my confidence back. I got my wishes with a great (not easy, but well executed) run. A pace of 8:20 translates to a 12:30 1.5 mi repeat. My splits: 12:16/12:15/12:10/12:18. Ready to tackle Tuesday!!

Wednesday: Pure Barre class!

Thursday: 7.5 miles, with 5 at tempo with my friend Leeanne. It was very windy but we had a good run!

Friday: I woke up with a horrible migraine so didn’t run in the morning but did take my 250th Pure Barre class after work!!! It was an ass kicker and so awesome!

Saturday: I hosted a Oiselle team bRUNch – we ran ten easy miles and then had an awesome brunch!

@oiselle team bRUNch! Such fun and a great turnout. Ten miles on a glorious day! #oiselleteamdmv

Sunday: Easy 6.5 miles with Dawn to end the week! Plus some foam rolling afterwards.

Total mileage for the week: 35.5miles

Total mileage for the year: 221.71 miles

Total mileage for this training cycle: 345.26 miles

What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

My weather is the same as yours and I’m not complaining either! I’ll take any nice February days we can get. I just hope this doesn’t lead into an overly warm spring.

This weather has been quite something! And I’m sure is a big reason why both little man and I are sick right now. 🙁

The weather here has been amazing, which stinks because I’m injured and can’t run and enjoy it. I’m so sick of cross training when it’s so beautiful out. Yesterday the temperature got to almost 80 though and I felt like that was way TOO hot for February. You had a great week of training and congrats on your 250th pure barre class! I took a barre class a few weeks ago and it was pretty fun and definitely a workout. Seems like great cross training for runners, too.

The weather has been all over the place here, too, but mostly warm?? Definitely warmer than I’d expected, I’ll say that; normally, our coldest days happen in February. Jonathan had to mow the yard yesterday and pollen is starting to show up, so I’m thinking we’re just going to skip the rest of winter – ha! Great job this week and a big congrats on your accomplishment at Pure Barre; so cool!

great week of training!! Congrats on 250th barr class AND for your Tuesdays redemption 4×1.5mile repeats!
looking forward to reading about your game plan for your upcoming race!
Its been spring like weather here in SC. I love it but know that mild winters usually bring hotter than average summers..ugh. But the one thing that will motivate me during summer training is knowing I have a goal race in Iceland in june. running in the humidity here in SC will make running in Iceland a piece of cake!

I know what you mean about the weather! It has been trying to make it’s mind up for a while, one run ill be in a jacket.. the next I’m in shorts and a t-shirt.. and sometimes I judge it wrong and end up too hot or cold! xD

Great week of training, and congrats on 250 classes, thats some feat!

Wow, 250th class?? That’s impressive. They just opened a Pure Barre location in our town. (we’re hitting the big time now! haha) Looks like you had a good training week. We have had some “shorts wearing” days around here too – but I run in the early morning so I didn’t get to enjoy them yet.
