Eek! The race is done and I have great news – I crushed my goal and got a new PR! A full race recap will be up later this week, but a preview is below. Each week during this training cycle, I have shared how my training went and what the week looked like. I did this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helped keep me accountable when I knew I’d be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. I’ve started a weekly link up for Training Recaps – I’ve enjoyed reading about everyone’s training so much that I think I will keep the training recaps going for the next few weeks. While I won’t be officially training again for a couple months, I’ll still be running some (and even doing a bit of racing) and I love reading recaps so we will just keep this thing going!
Monday: An easy 3 mile run commute from work. It was fun to run home and the bonus of daylight savings is that it doesn’t get dark until later.
Tuesday: Almost 2 mile run commute to the new Whole Foods in my hood. I’m slightly obsessed.
Wednesday: Rest day!
Thursday: I added an additional rest day since this was race week.
Friday: 6.11 easy miles with Dawn – it was fun to catch up – we hadn’t run together in awhile so I appreciated the chance!
Saturday: Very easy three mile shakeout run to get race ready.
Sunday: 13.71 – a warm up + the race. Like I said, look for a race recap later, but for your preview see below!
Total mileage for the week: 27.43 miles
Total mileage for the year: 369.08 miles
Total mileage for this training cycle: 492.63 miles
Do you set mileage goals for the year? I don’t, but I do like tracking it!

I’M SO THRILLED TODAY!! Way to give yourself permission to be a badass out there, Courtney; what a fantastic run and race day! I’m so proud of you!!! I wish I could give you a giant high five…it’ll have to wait awhile, but I’m holding on to it. 😉

Thanks Tara – it was a great day and I felt your support while running 🙂
Congratulations on your new PR and crushing your goals! I am so proud of you because I remember when you were trying to break 2 hours and now youv’e done that in a few half marathons. Plus, I know from reading this recaps that you have not had an easy time this training cycle with deaths in your family as well as some weather issues and the travelling. I can’t wait to read your full recap later this week and glad you’re keeping the linkup going.
Hope you have a wonderful recovery and congratulations again- you have a LOT to be proud of!
Thank you Amy Lauren. It is really rewarding for me to reflect back and see how much I’ve been able to grow as a runner. You’ve always been so supportive and it has really been encouraging. 🙂
Yay for a a new PR. I like keeping a record of my training too ND started posting on IG, although I did miss posting a few runs.
So do you run home after shopping at whole foods?
Ha, no I walked home after WF. I bought too many things to run home 🙂
Woo-hoo! Great job Courtney! I can’t wait to read your recap later on this week,
Thank you! I thought I’d work on it some tonight but I’m pretty sure an 8pm bedtime is coming my way 🙂
Congrats on the race!!!!!
I don’t usually set yearly mileage goals but I agree, tracking is fun
Yes, I like the tracking aspect as well 🙂
I had a huge smile on my face when I saw this on IG. I knew you were going to crush it, and I’m so happy that the results of all your hard training paid off so well for you. Can’t wait for the recap. I wish I could do a run commute, but I’m required to carry my laptop home every night (for business continuity reasons in case of a disaster), and between my laptop, change of shoes, lunch, etc., my bag weighs like 50 pounds.
Oh my gosh – yeah that’s WAY too much stuff. I basically only take my wallet, my flats and my keys and phone. I use my camelbak without the bladder and it’s perfect.
Congratulations on your big PR this morning! So, so happy to see your hard work pay off!
I’m the same way – I track my mileage just because it’s interesting to me, but I never make mileage goals. I figure I’ll run whatever miles I need to for whatever races I’m signed up for, and whatever all of that adds up to is whatever it adds up to!
Thanks Tracy – it was a great race and I’m feeling it today 🙂
So happy for you! You EARNED this – you trained so hard, and so well, through all the ups and downs!
Thanks Coco – this was a great race! I would definitely run it again – have you ever made your way out to that trail?
Congrats on your PR! Looking forward to the race recap. I like reading other’s training as well. I don’t set mileage goals but I do like tracking my miles. I also like graphing similar time periods just for comparison.
I am a data nerd so I love everything about digging into my running data 🙂
You seemed so confident going in, and had most certainly worked so hard for this race! I just knew you were going to kill it, but so glad you did! Congratulations once again!
Thank you – I was confident in my training, but still a bit nervous because you never know… 🙂
You smoked that half! Congratulations, I can’t wait for the recap!
And I am seeing why everyone loves Whole Foods…we have a new one in Philly that’s ridiculously amazing. I wish I lived closer!
