B&A Training Recap – It’s Race Week!

March 19, 2017 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC29 Comments

This time next week I’ll be sharing how I did on my goal race for this winter (technically spring since spring starts on the 20th).  Check back later this week for my goals for this race! As you know, each week during this training cycle (I’m training for the B&A Trail Half Marathon – a relatively small, rails to trail half coming up on Sunday), I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. I’ve started a weekly link up for Training Recaps – let’s support each other as we train this winter! Please do link up!

B&A Trail Half Training Recap

Monday: An easy 3 mile run commute from work. It was fun to run home and the bonus of daylight savings is that it doesn’t get dark until later.

Tuesday: Snow! We had a bit of snow + ice, which made me change my plans. I ran for 5 miles and ran fast when I could and slowed down on the parts of the trail that were covered in ice. I’m still disappointed that we didn’t have one snow storm that was serious enough for me to use my Yaktrax. Boo!

Wednesday: Rest day!

Thursday: I was supposed to run my final tempo run. But. I slept HORRIBLY the previous night and just needed more rest. So I didn’t run. This might be the second time I’ve skipped a run this training cycle that wasn’t due to my surgery or the funeral I went to. Grace, right?

Friday: I got to run with my bud (and former Friday Five co-host) Cynthia! We had such fun running downtown and catching up. It had been WAY too long. Plus Pure Barre after work – a real butt kicker, too!

Squinty eyes, crazy hair, don’t care. Fun five miles with @yousignedupforwhat this morning! It’s been WAY too long since we’d run together. A great start to Friday! 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️🍀🍀🍀

Saturday: 8.5 comfortable miles with my Saturday run crew. The miles felt easy and the company was wonderful. A great run.

Sunday: 3.6 easy with Caitlin to end the week. Y’all I am READY TO RACE! 🙂

Total mileage for the week: 25.36 miles

Total mileage for the year: 341.65 miles

Total mileage for this training cycle: 465.2 miles

Spring races are starting – anyone have any big ones coming up?

We had about four inches of snow and I wore my trail shoes instead of my Yaktrax. They worked great since the snow was a little deeper and not slippery.

Have a great week and a fantastic race next weekend! Can’t wait to read all about it!

Yeah – there just wasn’t enough on the ground for me to use my Yak. So sad! Thanks for the well wishes! I’m so happy it’s finally here!

We had more of a snow/ice mixture so it was very slippery – not great for running!

I’m so excited for you and can’t believe that race week is already here!

We had just enough snow/ice that I had to run inside on Wednesday, and my normal trail for long runs still isn’t
    “runnable.” Good luck this weekend!

Great job this past week! I got in a run on Tuesday before the storm too. The rest of the week was just awful in Philly…I’m so glad it’s finally clearing up. Can’t wait to see your goals and recap of the race!

WOO HOO!!! This is so exciting, Courtney! I’m ready for you to race, too 🙂 I’m kind of cracking up about your disappointment with the weather and no YakTrax this year; after last year, I felt sure you would NEVER want to see snow again! That was last year, right? Sheesh. Anyway, I hope you have a great week and know that I’ll be cheering big for you! YOU ARE READY!

Wow, 460+ miles for this training cycle–and you still have a week to go! Awesome job this whole training. I don’t care how many people tell me less is more. More mileage definitely works! Of course you are ready for race day, and of course you will rock it. No doubt!

You know it’s funny because I missed a few days of running due to my surgery and a funeral and have skipped maybe two runs and that has led me to feel like I really haven’t run much but tallying it up over time does suggest otherwise! Super excited to race two weekends in a row (and SO excited to meet up with you next weekend!)

That’s funny about your YakTrax. I got to wear mine just once in Ohio this winter. We just didn’t get all of that snow everyone was talking about early in the season. Too bad though, because I love snow!
Good luck on your race. Sounds like you are all set!!
