Hi there! After being sidelined with the plague last week, I was happy to be feeling better this week and be able to get in some runs. I traveled a bit, and was able to get in a fun run in New York. As you may remember, I will still be running (and even doing a couple of races) in between now and when I start training for the Berlin Marathon. But Iโll primarily be focused on cross training and keeping my base level of running up. I’m running a few days a week before training gets going in a couple of weeks. In that spirit, I will continue to enjoy all of your training recaps, so please do keep linking up! This is a low-key link up, but if you participate regularly, link back to this blog. Now on to the maintenance training recap!
Monday: Rest.
Tuesday: 5.8 morning miles with my friend Jen. It was fun to catch up and we had a nice, easy run.
Wednesday: About 3.2 with Caitlin. I accidentally paused my watch so I’m unsure of the exact mileage but I think 3.2ish is about right.
Thursday / Friday: rest.
Saturday: Sunday: 5.2 strong miles in Central Park in New York. Daniela was kind enough to take me on a fun morning run through the park before I left the City. It was a perfect day for a run and we had a blast.
Sunday: I had agreed to help pace my friend Deb to a sub-2 half at the Frederick Running Festival. I hopped in at mile 8, after spectating for a bit and then was able to run Deb in. And I was so proud of her because she did it! I love love love being able to run with friends. It was a great day. Just over 6 miles for the day.
Total mileage for the week: 20.24 miles
Total mileage for the year: 461.66 miles
Have you ever paced a friend in a race?

I’ve never intentionally paced a friend in a race, but apparently, I have paced a friend or two in a race! Glad you were able to get your friend to her goal!
Yes, I was so happy to be able to help her! Running is the best!
I’ve intentionally paced a few times. One was “official” and the other was more informal (I just needed to get a run in that day and a friend wanted a pacer so I said I would). It is always a nice thing to do. One of my friends on another online forum was out running and literally “ran into” this race in DC and was talking about it. I’m glad you got a run in in NYC too!
I bet you’d be a great pacer ๐
Woo, glad to hear that you are feeling back to normal! Looks like a great day to run in Central Park, and how fun to help a friend to her first sub-2! I’ve paced a friend to a couple of half marathon PRs, down to 2:03…hope to get her to that sub-2 soon!
Oh that’s so fun, right?? My friend I ran with in NYC was like “I’d love to pace you sometime.” She’s awesome and has a 1:41 half PR so I’d love for her to pace me as well:)
So happy that you are feeling better! Looks like you had a great week of running. I love running in Central Park, I just wish it had less hills, lol.
Let me know the next time you are in NYC. I could meet you for lunch or dinner (I’m only about an hour away on Metro North)!
Oh I would love that!! I will definitely let you know!!
Getting to run with you during a race, I know you were a great support to your friend Deb and helped her to that sub-2 half! I’m glad you’re feeling better…being sick is the worst! I need to get back up to NYC, I love running in Central Park! When does marathon training kick off for you?

Good question! My training officially starts the last week of this month. Can’t believe it’s here! I’ve had a good break though so I’m ready to work again ๐
I’m glad you’re feeling better! I’ve paced friends a few times for half marathons and 10Ks, and it’s always such a good time. I love seeing someone else hit a PR or reach a race goal. I’m jealous of your Central Park run. I love it there, but have never run it! If I ever get back up to NYC, it’s on my list.
Central Park is so awesome to run in. Varied terrain and a ton of other runners. Super fun!
Kudos to you for helping Deb meet her race goal! Not only do I love seeing friends cheering on the sidelines at races, but being able to run with friends is even more fun.

Yeah for running in Central Park. It’s my favorite running spot. I am glad you had a good time.
Wow!! Congrats on pacing your friend to a successful sub-2! I’ve only intentionally paced a friend for a race…a new runner wanted me to pace her for a 5K (many years ago), and then she surged ahead of me at the finish line and got the AG award (I still have not quite gotten over that one LOL). But, I’m still running and she isn’t, so there’s that. Karma!
Hahaha that’s a hilarious story! All for the greater good, right?
Happy that you are over the plague! Great job maintaining your base! I needed a break from running, so I don’t regret my break–but it is hard building a base back up.
I paced my friend Dani for her first marathon in March at the LA Marathon. I ran the entire course with her (I was registered). It was so fun and rewarding. It was fun, not “racing” for myself. I plan to do it again in the future. ๐
Oh I think you told me that was your plan back in January! Such fun, right??
Yayyy I’m glad you are feeling better! Was so nice you were able to pace Deb! So happy for her.
Glad you are feeling better! And great job pacing your friend! You are the running friend I need to pace me too. ๐
I dream of getting to run through Central Park – it is a bucket list item for sure.
So glad to hear you are feeling better.
I really love running in the park – you would as well!!
You’re smart to not cut back too much in mileage so it won’t be too jarring when you start training. Marathon training mileage seems very daunting to me at this point because it’s been so long since I did high mileage. Cool that you were able to pace your friend to her PR!
Yes and I also plan on doing the buildup per the book. So hopefully it’ll be nice and gradual!
I’m glad you’re feeling better! Running in Central Park sounds so fun. Perhaps once my son and d-i-l move from Chicago to Northern NJ this summer, I can do that on one of our visits!
I can’t remember pacing anyone in a race, but I did run the first mile of a race with my friends after I saw them off and then I split off to run back toward my home. My friends Miles and Ed ran from mile 17 to 26 at my very first marathon with me. It was good just knowing that I was going to see them and gave me something to look forward to. One of the lessons they taught me that morning was to always run the shortest tangents in a race whenever possible.

Oh! Can you teach me to run tangents?? I’m so horrible at it. And that’s fun that your son is moving to NJ – much closer! ๐
