Happy Friday, y’all! I don’t know about you but this week has felt LONGGGGG! I’m so glad it’s Friday and I’m ready for the long weekend. It’s supposed to be a rainy one, but I have my fingers crossed that the rain will stop before my long run on Sunday.
Here are the five things I’m thinking about today:
- Blog overhaul. You may have noticed that the blog looks a bit different today. As I mentioned on Facebook, I have moved to a self-hosted blog. I plan on writing a bit more about how and why I did this, but in the interim, I ask that you bear with me as I find my perfect blog “look” and design. I’m doing all of this myself (at least right now I am!) and it’s definitely going to take me a minute as I figure it all out.
- Babies.Β Not for me! But this week, another friend announced she was pregnant…with twins! This brings the grand total of pregnant friends I have up to a whopping 10+, including two sets of twins. Cray cray.
- Running like crazy!Β October is going to be my highest mileage month yet and I’m kinda excited about really ramping it up. I’m doing things like running two a days (OUCH! – more about this in a future blog post) and running crazy long distances on the weekends and even though it’s tough, I love it because I know it’s getting me ready for Richmond.
- Finally fall weather. Well it took awhile, but we finally have cooler temps here in DC.I’m all of a sudden hungry for chili and cornbread and want to go apple picking! What’s your favorite fall activity?
- Long weekend!Β Yay! Remember how I said this week felt long? That means that I’m REALLY going to appreciate doing a little birthday brunch on Monday with some of my favorite people. That’s right — I turn 31 on Wednesday and since I’m out of town / busy the next couple weekends, I’m doing a birthday brunch on the holiday. We’re headed to Ted’s Bulletin which is super fun and DELICIOUS.
Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to link up your Friday posts!
Are you off on Monday for Columbus Day? If so, what are your weekend plans? Any tips on self-hosting??
So I was looking for a good breakfast place for the holiday since we are off! I think we may check out your restaurant of choice!! Thanks!! (and Happy Early Birthday!!)
Awesome! If you are there around 1:30 and see a large group – come by — it’ll be my friends and I π
Will do…not sure when we’ll go…I do know it won’t be super early (sleep in day!!) The kids are in school in our county so it’s a mystery date day for me and my boyfriend…he doesn’t know where we are going…Thanks for contributing to our day =) Have a nice weekend!! Hopefully this rain will stop…Soccer and running doesn’t look fun for the weekend!!
I’m not off for Columbus Day, but I did take Monday off because my parents will be in town visiting. I’m super excited!
Enjoy your long weekend and your birthday brunch. π
That sounds like a great way to spend the long weekend π
1. Love the new look. Great job!
2. Now ALL I want is chili and cornbread! I miss Hard Times so much..
Thanks Elizabeth! It’s so fun to play around and learning about the technical side of blogging is overwhelming but I’m enjoying it π Think it’s time for a DC visit!
I know nothing about self hosting. Honestly, I don’t know the benefits even. Can’t wait to read more about why you decided to do it. And I don’t get Monday off. Bummer, it would have been a good rest day after my half (SUNDAY!!)
Yeah, I didn’t know much about it either — but already I love it!
I can’t wait to hear more about how/why you decided to self-host. I’ve been considering it, mainly because I have this insane fear that all my stuff will get lost on blogger somehow?!?! I don’t even know where to start though, so I look forward to hearing your wisdom =)
I’m looking forward to share why I switched and what I’ve learned so far π I’m DEFINITELY still learning, but I can help folks who are just getting started!
Yay, you went self hosted! Looks good. I’ve loved it ever since I decided to do it π

Thanks! I am definitely loving it so far π You were definitely an inspiration!
I’m curious about how, when and why you decided to start blogging – I’ve been considering it for a while, not quite sure…. Enjoy your blog and would have loved to meet up in Richmond (or on a DC area run, I’m in NoVa), but an injury in August has meant I’m retargeting for Shamrock in March and won’t be at Richmond. Wishing you all the best, and happy birthday!
Sorry to hear about your injury, Melissa! If you go waaaay back to the beginning on the blog, you’ll see that I started it to track a list of 30 things I wanted to do before my 30th birthday. Early this past spring, I changed the focus to focus on food, running and general fitness. I think if you are thinking about it, you should go for it! I’ve enjoyed blogging and it’s helped me grow tremendously as a runner π Thanks for reading the blog and the birthday wishes!
Pretty new look and I always love the commentluv. I do want a new look for my blog, but am not sure about self-hosted vs. just choosing another WordPress theme – there are so many.

Thank you — I think there are definite advantages to being self-hosted – I’ll spell it out more in my upcoming post, but in short I wanted to do things on my blog that I couldn’t do unless I hosted my own blog. I love it so far π
