Welcome to my fifth post in a monthly series where I will share my blog stats and income with you. I was inspired to do this because I know of some bigger bloggers (like Pinch of Yum) who share their blog stats and income but I really didn’t see any smaller bloggers (like me! and maybe you!) who do so. I figured if I was looking for something that I wasn’t willing to publish myself that was pretty messed up so decided that I’d start sharing my monthly stats and income. Here’s January’s blog stats and income report – I hope you find this helpful (you can find December’s report here)!
January was an interesting month. I thought I’d feel really refreshed and ready to kick butt with blogging but that just wasn’t the case. Life happened, work happened and blog crashes happened. I was stressed out, frustrated and tired. It definitely took me almost the whole month to really get into a groove and that’s okay. Life happens and I’m honestly just happy that my blog maintenance issues are finally figured out (more on that later this week) and I’m not bone tired every day. So here’s the rundown: in January, pageviews fell slightly and income rose a bit. I had 48,420 pageviews in December and that number dropped to 45,898 pageviews in January. Given all the trouble I had with my blog (I couldn’t access for a few days – ugh), I’m not surprised, nor am I worried that the views dropped a bit. I would like to start hitting 50k consistently each month and I plan on being strategic to do so. I wanted to look at some specific stats regarding my blog so I examined my busiest day and my busiest time of day (want to do this too? read my post on custom reports here). I found that my busiest days in January were Mondays. Previously, Sundays were my busiest days – I attribute the change to the fact that when I was posting on Sundays, it was pretty late in the day. I’m going to experiment this month by posting early in the day on Sundays and seeing what happens. Nights continue to be the times when most readers come to my blog – I get it – I read a lot of blogs before bed myself. I’m going to continue to make sure to highlight blog posts in the evenings to capitalize on that.
Now are the numbers for the month:
Ad income: 24.08 (BlogHer) +12.83 (Adsense) = 36.91
Affiliate income: 177.97
Sponsored posts: 130
Total January income: $344.88
Total January pageviews: 45,898
The real difference between December and January in income was the sponsored posts – I was paid for a couple different posts which kept my income going up. I think for me the key in making more money is have diverse income streams. Obviously the majority of the money I made in January came from sponsored posts and affiliate income, but that’s not always going to be the case. I’m really happy that income went up in January because I just invested a significant amount back into the maintenance of the blog and I’d like to have the blog earn enough to pay back that cost. I anticipated making less in February because of how the payouts for my affiliate networks are scheduled. I’m going to be closely monitoring my ad income earnings – I’m thinking of changing ad networks (leaving BlogHer) so I’ll be analyzing this over the next few months!
How was January in your neck of the woods?
