May Blog Stats and Income Report

July 1, 2015 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC43 Comments

Welcome to my monthly series where I share my blog stats and income with you. I was inspired to do this because I know of some bigger bloggers (like Pinch of Yum) who share their blog stats and income but I really didn’t see any smaller bloggers (like me! and maybe you!) who do so. I figured if I was looking for something like this, others might be as well, so I decided that I’d start sharing my monthly stats and income. Here’s my May blog stats and income report – I hope you find this helpful (you can find April’s report here)!

monthly blog stats and income

Ad income: 34.48 (BlogHer) + 7.07 (Adsense) = 41.55

Editorial income: 200

Total May income: $241.55

Total May pageviews: 13,198

May was a decent month for income because I was paid for some editorial work I did. I was asked to rework a couple of my old blog posts into a series for BlogHer and was offered $200 to do so. It was fun and that income made up the bulk of my May earnings. You might notice that my BlogHer ad income dropped a little bit. I removed the tune in bar ad from my blog because I didn’t really like it – that led to a slight drop in ad income but for me it was worth it. My pageviews were also a bit down and I know that is because May began the summer slump. Interestingly enough, June is on pace to have less income but more pageviews. It’s a constant up and down with blogging and that’s okay with me. As I mentioned, I’m working on improving my blogging and it is a daunting task (to update old posts, develop and utilize a social media strategy, etc.) and that is my main focus over the remainder of the year.

I’ve been incredibly blessed to make a bit of extra cash through my blog and I never want to take that for granted. I also realized that my pageviews are over 100% higher than they were this time last year. That’s extraordinary growth and I’ve very proud of that. It’s important to sometimes take a step back and get perspective. I love writing and I absolutely love this blog. I am fortunate to have a well paying full time job such that any money made from this blog can go back into making it better — and sometimes a new pair of shoes. 🙂

Share something you are proud of – your blog, your fitness, your home life — tell me!

June always brings a slower month in page views for me as well. Thank you for sharing this and it is always so interesting to see how people’s blogs do and what people do with them. I’m with you that if it adds quality to your blog (IE: removing the ad), I would do it too!

You take very good care of your blog and your pride shows through! I like how you have your ads but they are very tasteful and not popping up all over the place and blocking the blog content.

I am proud of the opportunities blogging has provided for us! Thank goodness we make $ at our day jobs, but it is nice to earn a little extra (for shoes like you say)!

Thanks for keeping a great blog Courtney!

June wasn’t my best month either in terms of page views, but I’m also attributing part of that to my lack of time to comment on and visit as many blogs as I would like to. Blogging is definitely a two day street, and if you don’t have as much time to put into it then its likely you won’t get as much of a return.

I haven’t blogged since my husband died in mid April. I’m thinking about getting back to it, but changing the focus to more about my unexpected widowhood & how running has really helped me maintain my sanity when the rest of my life is in complete upheaval. I don’t know if anyone will want to read it, but writing it might be helpful to me. Journaling has been highly encouraged by my grief counselor, and blogging is a form of journaling, right? I currently don’t have my blog set up to earn money but I might look into it, since in this new phase of my life I could use some extra money. Even if it just covers a race entry fee or two, that would be helpful.
