Happy May! I can’t believe that May is already here – time is flying! Let’s check in with the goals I set in April and look at my goals for this month. In April, I strove to run four times a week, take four Pure Barre classes a week, do my PT exercises four times a week and be out of boxes by the end of the month. I’m going to give myself a B. I did run four times a week and took at least four Pure Barre classes (except for the week I was in Chicago for my conference) but I did NOT do my PT exercises four times a week. We also still have a few boxes – we’re pretty much out of boxes but need to purchase a new bookshelf so all our books are boxed still. Not bad for the month, but some room to build for sure.
In light of how April went, here are my May goals:
- Increase my prayer time. I usually read a devotional each morning and spend some time reflecting. I’d like to continue that reflection for a bit extra time in the morning and bring out my journal in case I want to make notes. I want this to be a habit and not something I’m just doing out of routine.
- Work speed work back into my training. I did my first speed workout in months last week and it was hard. BUT, it’s necessary and I am going to start working speed work back in.
- Commit to doing my PT four times a week. I’m really going to get on this during May. I only have one major exercise to focus on and I’m focusing on doing it once in the morning and once in the evening.
That’s it. I really want to be successful with these goals so I’m not setting any others. I really want to set myself up for success.
How did you do on your goals for the month of April?
Sounds like smart goals to us Courtney. Working speed back in can be tough, but it will do wonders for all areas of your running. As long as you are doing the best you can, that is all you can really ask of yourself.

Thanks – I agree. I don’t compare myself with other!
I would say a grade of a B is good! I don’t set monthly goals, but if I did I would probably get a D or an F, lol.
Well I’d like to be an A gal so I’m gonna work on that ๐
I won’t lie, as hard as they are, I love those speed workouts. I love how accomplished I feel when they are done! And so effective….

very true. once they are done, i’m VERY happy i did it!
great goals! I know you can do it ๐ I really need to get into setting monthly goals. I think that’s why I end up all over the place even though I have overarching ones!

i’ve found it to be really helpful!
You got me in to Pure Barre and I’m loving it. This time my hamstrings are fried but it’s still that good feeling of I’m sore because I did something.

yay!!! i love hearing this. i find it so helpful. ๐ i’m going tonight!
I’ll be reflecting on my Aprils goals in tomorrow’s blog post, but overall I’m proud of what I accomplished last month. One of my goals was to be better about listening to my body, and I think I did really well in recognizing when I needed extra rest or sleep as opposed to over training.

that’s very important – way to go being in tune w/yourself ๐
ugh the dreaded speedwork! My May goals are to continue getting my running mileage back up and increase my time on my bike for the tris.

Courtney, I think you had an amazing month! Kudos on your efforts to stay on track; I know it’s got to be tough, sometimes. It is for me! I think that the boxes are completely excusable, friend; the PT exercises…not so much. Don’t be like me, Courtney!! Do your exercises so you don’t have to go back! I’ve definitely learned this the hard way, so I’m “parenting” you now – ha! ๐ Keep up the great work, girl; you’re inspiring!

i know, i know! you’ll be proud to hear i did my PT work last night ๐
April….let’s just say that I am glad it is over…I would rate myself a C- which may as well be an F. I am my worse critic!
Your May goals are great! I am adding meditation and yoga…hoping to release some of this stress in my body that is causing other issues ๐
I am going to focus on speed work over the summer-I have heard the great benefits of it.
Have a great week!
Your May goals sound like good ones. I’d say you did pretty good with your move if you only have a couple of boxes left!

Love this! I think setting goals is such a great way to keep on track and looks like you did a great job with your goals!
I didn’t have huge goals for April except to get on a clear path to being healthy again with my running – goal accomplished!
I agree, speed work is tough…tough but worth it!

I think it’s great how you goal set at the beginning of each month and I have no doubt that you will achieve everything you want in May! I want to start adding speed work back into my routine as well. (Gotta get ready for that June 5k!)

Those are specific, totally attainable goals. I like that you start every day with a devotional. I need something like that to start my mornings out on a higher plane.

it’s very calming. i like it because i post on instagram and so when i’m on instagram later in the day, i’ll go back to it and try to get back to that calm place ๐
I really should start setting monthly goals for myself. I grade myself poorly for not even attempting it.
Your lists are very inspiring. I’m starting to incorporate speed work more into my training too. And I’m mentally preparing myself to start marathon training for next month. eek!

Great goals! I actually need to get my hip strengthening back in focus. Good idea to keep the goals few so that you can focus on them better.

I couldn’t agree more with the devotions. My husband Jason and I have made a commitment to be Focused and Disciplined this year (more so than we normally our).
Two of the primary areas are in our devotional time as individuals but also as a couple. Likewise we are making making better eating and healthy movement choices.
As you and your readers know, this all requires time each day to accomplish. It comes down to choices and trusting that the time we invest in our spiritual (God) health and our physical health (improving the quality of our bodily temple) will have a higher dividend and return on investment than choosing to do less productive activities with our time.
After-all, the first thing we are to be stewards of is our time. Right?

Yes, I 100% agree. Figuring out how to best manage your time is key.
You had a good month! April I was so-so with my goals…probably a B- (def did not get into the pool – ughhhh needs to happen). This week I think I’ll start completing the Nest WOW – looks tough.. but I need it!

I think setting a few goals is smart so you can really focus on them.
I only have 3 goals this month too.
