Hi friends. As I’ve mentioned before, I sometimes run commute to or from work. It is a great way to get to and from work and get your workout in. I was recently featured in a Washington Post article about run commuting and it made me realize that with Car Free Day coming up on Friday, September 21 and/or Saturday September 22, this was the perfect opportunity to combine the two.

Car Free Day is a free international event celebrated every September 22 in which people are encouraged to travel without driving alone in cars, and instead share a ride or choose an alternative method of travel such as ride a train, bus, bicycle, carpool, vanpool, Metrorail, or walk (or run in my case!). For those that have the ability to work from home, telework also counts as a way to go car-free!
To participate just fill out the pledge form, then go car free or car-lite (carpool, vanpool) on Friday, September 21 and/or Saturday, September 22, 2018; participate for one or both days.
As I shared in the Washington Post article, for me going car free is an easy way to both get in a run but to also have a reliable commute. The bonuses for the environment are a great extra.
I hope some of you might be inspired to try run commuting or simply just think about an alternative way to get to work rather than driving. I know here in the DC area, many of my friends do NOT drive to work in the first place. If that’s you – you too can go ahead and take advantage of car free day by signing up here.
Have you ever tried run commuting?
This post is sponsored but all opinions about run commuting and the benefits of car free day are mine!
I didn’t run to work, but I did ride my bike! There is a nice trail a mile from my house, and I hopped on that. Then it was just a short 4 miles to work. However, in the afternoon it rained so I had my husband pick me up after work 🙂 I am frail like that. haha!

Oh I would definitely not ride a bike in the rain – too slick and slippery! Awesome that you did that!
I didn’t run commute that day because I go back and forth between seeing clients at my home gym and another gym where I train clients. Until I can run fast enough to make the 6-mile commute in the 15 minutes I schedule between clients, I won’t be able to run commute. Something tell me that’s not going to happen! 😉
Lol – yeah I think that might be just slightly aspirational 🙂
