This past week was busy, busy, busy. I attended (and presented at) a conference in San Francisco. I did a lot of running in San Francisco, which was awesome! It was a good trip and a great conference but I am wiped out and need a couple of nights of good sleep to feel back to normal. Cross country travel will do that to ya! As you may remember, I will still be running (and even doing a couple of races) in between now and when I start training for the Berlin Marathon. But Iβll primarily be focused on cross training and keeping my base level of running up. I imagine Iβll run a few days a week for the next month or so before training gets going. In that spirit, I will continue to enjoy all of your training recaps, so please do keep linking up! This is a low-key link up, but if you participate regularly, link back to this blog. Now on to the maintenance training recap!
Monday: A rare double run. I only had time for a couple miles before work and so after work, when the weather was perfect, I headed out for another couple miles. Total of about 4.5 for the day.
Tuesday: Flew to San Francisco – no running but a good about of walking to offset the almost 6 hour flight.
Wednesday: Ran with a few conference colleagues to start the day. It was beautiful – and CRAZY hilly. Oh, San Francisco, how I love you. Just under 5 miles for the day.
Thursday: No running, but probably 3 miles of walking. The weather was perfect the entire trip – crisp and cool in the mornings and sunny during the day. Perfect!
Friday: 3.5 easy miles to start the day and then after the conference ended that afternoon, about 7 miles of walking around San Francisco. We saw (on foot) the Painted Ladies, explored the Haight Ashbury neighborhood and Golden Gate Park. I was TIRED by the time we got back to the hotel.
Saturday: Y’all I ran on the Golden Gate Bridge!! It was so neat. I’ll be sharing a post about how to do this (i.e., how to get there from downtown, etc.) soon. Just under ten miles for that run. And then more walking with my family later that day.
Sunday: Rest – I flew back home and am probably going to sleep forever.
Total mileage for the week: 22.23 miles
Total mileage for the year: 441.42 miles
Do you travel for work? If so, do you enjoy it?

What an awesome week of running and exploring! I don’t travel for work too often, maybe 1-2 times a year. When I do, I try to take advantage. I was in Minneapolis at the end of March and was able to run and explore the city one day while I was there. I’ll be in Chicago for a few days at the end of June and plan on getting in some running as well!
Chicago is one of my favorite cities to run in, since I’m there so frequently!
San Francisco is one of my favorite places and the place I’ve visited the most. I ran my second race there! Yeah, the hills are so crazy though–I thought Pgh had crazy hills. But oh, the Golden Gate Bridge scares me! We biked across, and I was so scared because it was swaying so much. Kudos for you for running it!

It was really awesome to run across to Marin County and back. Totally a bucket list item! π
Totally jelly of your San Fran trip…it’s one of my bucket list cities for visit!
Work travel can be fun but you’re right, it can also be so exhausting

It was a great (but tiring) week! San Francisco is a lovely city and you WILL get a great workout with the hills!
I like San Francisco but will not run there because of their hills. Just walking there is hard enough!!!
You should give it a go! You can always run by the water, which is flat.
I just love San Francisco! I use to travel there for business often and really enjoyed it! How cool that you ran the Golden Gate!

Yes – it was a bucket list item and I’m happy I got to do it!
I have to travel for work next week, but it’s the city where my home office is and I used to live there, so I know the running routes. It’s not too bad. I would love to travel to a new place and run, though. It’s so awesome you got to run the Golden Gate Bridge AND run with your coworkers! I don’t have any running coworkers! Hope you get some rest from your travels and have a great week of maintenance training (which you’re doing really well with).
Thanks – I’m actually not feeling great so took today to rest and have slept most of the day – which definitely means I’m fighting a bug. Hoping to shake it very soon!
Wow, what a great view. I bet the bridge was amazing! I’ve got a quick trip to Chicago this week – will I run into you there? π
Hahaha, not this week! But I’m back in June. Have a great trip π
Running on the Golden Gate Bridge!! Wow, now that is something! I travel a lot for work – mostly South Africa, Namibia and Tanzania BUT I haven’t done any travel since starting my running journey. I hope when the time comes I am able to incorporate some running. Must be really nice to explore a new place on foot be it running or walking!
Exploring cities on foot is my absolute favorite!
San Francisco has been on my bucket list forever – still need to make a visit and of course run as much as possible! I’m glad you had a good time. Hope you’re resting up!

Thanks – yes, you should get out that way!
It is always so much fun to run while away. Its a great way to explore a new to you area. I loved being able to do just that while we were at the beach earlier this month.

It’s the best! I love running in a variety of places.
I’d love to go to San Francisco. Kudos for you on keeping up your training base.
I haven’t been to SF in a few years (use to go at least 2x/year), but will probably make a trip out soon since my sister moved out there. I haven’t had many work trips the past couple of years, but I loved when I use to (Puerto Rico, Seattle and Milwaukee were my faves) I loved all your pics from this week!
Thank you – hope you get in some runs on your current lovely trip π
I think it’s so neat you were able to run with co workers while away on business! Oh and of course the run over the Golden Gate Bridge- sounds amazing!! Good work getting in the miles this week during a busy week of work and travel
It was really fun to run with folks also attending the conference – one of my favorite experiences!
SO jealous of your gorgeous SF runs, especially the Golden Gate Bridge! I biked over it when I went but I would have loved to run it also. I feel like I need to go back just for a runcation! π I hope you got some sleep – you definitely earned it!
Jealous – San Francisco is so awesome!! I don’t travel for work. If I got to go to CA I’d be all for it though!! Can’t wait to see some more pictures of the city.
