Weekend Workouts

June 28, 2013 By: project30in201212 Comments

What are your weekend workout plans? I typically do my longest run of the week on the weekends, like most people. Unlike my weekday routine where I’m now trained to wake up early and run first thing in the morning, sometimes on the weekend I just can’t force myself out of bed at 6am. Or even 7am. And sometimes (like last weekend, when I stayed out way past my bedtime country line dancing [yes you read that correctly]) I can’t force myself out of bed at 8am. And during the summer in DC, if you aren’t out the door and running by 8am, it’s just too hot (in my opinion). So while I know I’ll get in a good run over the weekend, I’m much more flexible about which day and when.

However, because I’m OCD, I do try and schedule workouts if possible. So tomorrow morning, I’m heading out to run my neighborhood mall…

natl mall

I’m so blessed to live a stone’s throw from the National Mall. I am often reminded in the summer with all the tourists standing on the wrong side of metro escalators traversing my city, just how lucky I am to live here and to run and sweat here. Folks travel from all around the world to see what I see everyday and it is so easy to lose that perspective. I try and remind myself to be grateful. That I live here, that I am physically able to run, and that I am so blessed.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

What are your weekend workout plans? Are you running, racing or resting?

I go either very early or very late — only way to do it!

What a great place to run! I need to come run with you and Sue one day! Tomorrow I need to run 12 and start picking up the pace on my last few miles… but my scenery is nowhere near yours so I’ll prob get bored and just go home!

I’m running and resting this weekend. I too have a hard time getting myself out of bed in the morning on the weekends.

GIRL! It is hard. Goal for tomorrow is to be out of bed by 7. With the promise that I can nap afterwords 🙂

I’m about to go for a run now, actually. 4 miles again today. I know what you mean about the heat – I never run in the mornings, so I try to go right before the sun sets so that I’m not miserably hot in the middle of the day. Hope you enjoy your run this weekend!

The weekend should be all about sleeping ^_^. It has been getting hot here on the West Coast as well. That is why I love night runs. I keep my sleep & I beat the heat

I’m used to waking up early anyways and I like my long runs to mirror races, which are always early mornings on weekends! So waking up early one day of the weekend is fine for me (I usually nap at some point later in the day!)
