As you probably know, I love blog stats. I’m a super nerd and it’s part of the reason I do things like share my blog stats and income report each month. Since 2015 just ended, I thought I’d do a quick roundup post on my blog stats for the past year.
By the numbers:
- 212,007 pageviews
- 72,660 visitors
- 115,112 sessions
- 50% of my readers are between the ages of 25-34 and 90% of my readers are women
- Most popular posts for my biggest demographic (women ages 25-34):
- Focused on fitness, both running and Pure Barre
- Wildcard posts: On Body Image and Why I Hate Being Told to Smile
- My smallest demographic is men ages 65+, followed by women ages 65+
- My most popular posts for women ages 65+:
- A Hiccup and a PR
- My homepage
Top Referral Sources:
- Direct
48.9% of my visitors come via desktop and 41.3% come via a mobile phone. 9.8% come via tablet.
How I plan to use this information:
I’ve already started to use this information to help inform my blogging. One of the things I recently did was create an email list that offers more insight into blogging tips and tricks. I’m going to be posting the majority of my blogging posts to my email list, since those folks are signing up because of that interest. Here on the blog, it’ll be mostly fitness, running and the wildcard posts every now and again when they suit my fancy. To that end, you might notice that this post is part 1. Part 2 breaks down the income I earned in 2015 and talks about the different networks I worked with throughout the year. Part 2 will be going out to my email list in the next couple days, so make sure you sign up for that here if you haven’t already.
Another thing I’m going to be doing this year is deep diving into who my blog visitors are – what are they interested in and how can I better serve those interests. Looking at the segment of my readers that is the smallest (women aged 65+), I see that the top post for that group is within my fitness posts so that tells me I’m on the right track to grow those readers. I’ve also learned that while I love posting recipes, those posts are never at the top of the list for my readers. So, while I will still blog my favorite recipes because I love having my favorite recipes here on the blog and I know some folks do enjoy them, I will not overdo it with recipe posts (who am I kidding, I make the same ten recipes most of the time :)).
Curious how I pulled all this data? Check out this post on using Google Analytics.
I shared my top ten blog posts of 2015 here, if you’re interested in that!

There’s lots of great data in there!
Thanks for sharing! This is really interesting. I’ve been looking at my stats a lot to help determine future plans for my blog, but I never looked into the demographics feature. I just went on to read how Google determines demographics. Interesting!
Yes, I’m just beginning to explore this feature more but it’s pretty awesome!
You just blog about whatever; I’ll still be here, Courtney. 😉 But I do love your recipes!!
Aw, Tara – you are the best!! 🙂
Great info! I’m looking forward to reading Part 2 in your newsletter.

Glad it was helpful! I should have part 2 out in less than a week!
A self-professed data geek, I always like statistics. I just started diving into some really complex stuff in Google Analytics…reminds me of what I used to do as a consultant but I’m enjoying it. Thanks for sharing!
